Supporting Learning at Home

Literacy

Try these phonics activities at home:
  • Use your Jolly Phonic sound sheet to practise the sounds we have covered in class.
  • I spy something beginning with s….?
  • Can you think of any words that start with a t?
  • What sound can you hear at the beginning of dog?
  • Can you show me the action for the a sound? Can you guess the sound from this action?
  • Listen to and sing along to the jolly phonic songs online.
  • Make the sounds for example by writing, with play dough, chalk, paint.
  • Look in your story books and see if you can find any of the sounds we have been learning.
  • With your grown up put sounds together to make small words for example c…a..t is cat, h…e…n is hen.
  • With your grown up and can you think of any words with the same sound that rhyme such as dog and log.
  • Try these key words activities

Numeracy

Try these numeracy activities:
  • Number Formation – Use your number rhymes to help you practise writing your numbers checking that they are facing the correct way.
  • Build a number line to 10.
  • Continue to practise counting forwards and back from different numbers within 10
  • Point to the different numbers on the number line. Think about what number comes before and after each of the numbers, what number comes in between two numbers.
  • Count up sets of objects within 10 eg 8 teddies; remember to point to each object as you count. Add 1 more teddy to your set. Add two more.
  • Add two sets of objects together, e.g. 3 stones and 2 stones. How many altogether?
  • Count things in your house for example how many doors? rooms? stairs?
  • Find numbers in your house.
  • Use your fingers to show different ways of making each number.
  • Explore numbers with Rodd
