Friction Experiments

P6/7 are learning about friction in science this week.  We made our own ice rinks and used different objects as ice hockey pucks…

We learnt that pucks need to be smooth, flat and hard to slide well across the ice. We found the Duplo Lego brick slid the best.

We also pushed and pulled straws in and out of wet sand and water.  It was a lot easier to move the straw in the water as there was less friction

Happy Shoesday

Today we were to wear shoes to school that made us happy. The JRSO’s organised this as it is walk to School Week were we’re encouraged to walk to school if you can. The shoes were brilliant. we had ones that flashed, sparkled. we even had slippers. Even our teacher wore shoes. One sandal and one slipper. It was really funny.

School Fair

On Saturday the 19th May the school hosted a fair to raise money. The stalls included a bouncy castle, beat the goalie, sumo suits, welly throwing, parent soaking. There was also a gin bar, ice cream truck, craft stalls and home baking. The home baking alone raised a fantastic £137.20 and the P7’s organised this. It was a really good day for it and it was good fun. We would like to say thank you to the Parent Council for organising it.

Stained Glass

When talking about the features of churches, we wanted to find out more about stained glass window. We learned that they often tell stories and are a way of recording history. We made some ‘stained glass’ style pictures of spring flowers for our class windows! The light shines through them and they look fantastic 🙂

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

During the first week back after the holidays, P123 were finding out about signs of spring. We  learned more about birds nesting and listened to them chirping, new lambs bleating in the field across from the school, buds forming on the bushes and trees in the playground and looked closely at the colour and shapes of some spring flowers and read about frog spawn and tadpoles. We talked about spring at home as well. Some of us collected things to add to our display, others people took photos by themselves and emailed them to school so that we could show them on the Smartboard and talk about them and some of us made a poster to share our findings.

4/5 Snack Attack

Well done to Primary 4 and 5. Last term they created a company called 4/5 Snack Attack and for the last week of term they ran the tuck shop selling healthy snacks for Health week. They all worked really well as a team and Mrs Harrison was so proud of them all. Not only did they pay back their loan but they also made a profit of £9.96. Mrs Harrison had agreed to match this and so it was rounded up to £20. As a class the children decided that they would like to donate it to a charity that helps people with cancer. Today Thomas’s mum who works for the Anthony Nolan Trust came into to tell the class what their donation would do.

Well done everybody- great work.

P123 BOAT RACE IN THE BURN

The weather finally allowed us to race our boats in Longcote Burn.  We have had a great time exploring different materials, drawing designs, labelling diagrams, testing out prototypes in the water tray and adapting our designs to make them better. We found out that objects that float and are waterproof were the best to use and sometimes found it hard to joins parts of our design together (we tried sellotape, glue and string). Some of us even investigated ballast and buoyancy!

(We also made thank you cards for the welly-wearing adult helpers 🙂 Thank you)

P6/7 Natural Disaster Challenge

Primary 6/7 were given a homework challenge to make a NATURAL DISASTER (volcano, earthquake, tornado, wild fire etc.)  to show how much we have learned in our topic. Lots of people in our class took part in the challenge and here is what they created…

Poppy’s Volcano
Liam’s tornado
Rowan’s Earthquake
Finlay’s tornado
Connor’s tsunami
Rosie’s volcano with home made slime lava!
Gemma’s tasty volcano cake…
pouring sweets as lava!!
Miller’s avalanche with snow falling
Joe’s erupting volcano!

Health Week Wednesday and Thursday

On Wednesday we had a blast in the morning doing heart start which was different scenarios of how to save people’s lives. We learned C.P.R, the recovery position and more.

We also did a 20 minute run around the netball court, we then added up all the laps that we did and our grand total was…        65 Miles!!!!

On Thursday we had P.E and did a triathlon, it was really fun. We did jumping, running and throwing. When it wasn’t our turn we kept active by running around the netball court.

We also had another lovely walk up the track.
