Stained Glass

When talking about the features of churches, we wanted to find out more about stained glass window. We learned that they often tell stories and are a way of recording history. We made some ‘stained glass’ style pictures of spring flowers for our class windows! The light shines through them and they look fantastic 🙂

SPRING HAS SPRUNG!

During the first week back after the holidays, P123 were finding out about signs of spring. We  learned more about birds nesting and listened to them chirping, new lambs bleating in the field across from the school, buds forming on the bushes and trees in the playground and looked closely at the colour and shapes of some spring flowers and read about frog spawn and tadpoles. We talked about spring at home as well. Some of us collected things to add to our display, others people took photos by themselves and emailed them to school so that we could show them on the Smartboard and talk about them and some of us made a poster to share our findings.

P123 BOAT RACE IN THE BURN

The weather finally allowed us to race our boats in Longcote Burn.  We have had a great time exploring different materials, drawing designs, labelling diagrams, testing out prototypes in the water tray and adapting our designs to make them better. We found out that objects that float and are waterproof were the best to use and sometimes found it hard to joins parts of our design together (we tried sellotape, glue and string). Some of us even investigated ballast and buoyancy!

(We also made thank you cards for the welly-wearing adult helpers 🙂 Thank you)

Outdoor Art Gallery

P123 are still enjoying spending time in the woodlands (in all weathers!) and decided to make pictures of living things from things we found. Hope you can easily see the snail, the deciduous tree, the evergreen tree, the dragonfly and the human face!

INTO THE WOODS!

P123 have been enjoying exploring the woods and have been hunting for living and non-living things. We’ve also been discussing what ‘alive’ means and what something needs to stay alive. We have collected and investigated some of the interesting things we have found and designed and made broomsticks to solve our friend Olga’s broken broomstick problem!

A LITTLE BREAKFAST READING

We’ve been reading cereal packets and identifying the title and producer, talking about the persuasive (or not!) images as well as hunting for the best before date, contact details and ingredients. Some ‘snap, crackle and popping’ reading!

BAKE-OFF STARS OF THE FUTURE

We’ve had a great time in the bakery during bake-off culmination week… signature dishes, technical challenges  (timing, rolling, chopping and dividing dough, working out how many more we needed) and superb showstopper spiders! Well done, children 🙂

Brilliantly Busy Bakery

Our role play area has evolved into a busy bakery this week. Designed and created by the children themselves, it is a great place to develop many skills; counting, estimating, cutting, rolling, timing, talking, listening, money… to name but a few!

A HUGE thank you to Mrs Mackenzie for giving our cooker a new lease of life. 🙂

GUTS!

P23 have been learning about major organs and this week’s learning was based on the stomach… where it is, what is does and how we can look after it. Some super research and teamwork was followed  by sharing models, diagrams, interesting chat (including squidgy waste”), posters and powerpoint presentations. Well done everyone!

WELCOMING BASIL

We are lucky enough to have a visitor to our class… welcoming Basil the Book Buddy, a friend of Detective Dog. Like Nell, he loves listening to children read in school! We have been reading stories aloud and sharing our favourites with him.Â
