Interaction with children

The children are the most important people in our nursery. speak to them, play with them and show you are interested in them. when you speak to the children please speak properly and politely to them. Remember you are a role model to the children at all times. Please consider that English is a second language to some of our children.

Interaction with staff

While you are at St Ninian’s Early Years Centre we think of you as a member of the team and one of the staff. Please show your willingness to participate by doing everything well as you can. Don’t always wait to be asked to do things in the playroom – try to see what needs done, e.g. brushing up sand and washing the floor. Remember to put away e=resources and clean up after yourself. You will be expected to help with housekeeping duties as these are carried out by all staff and ensure the children can learn in safe, organised and clean environment.

Resources

Someone will show you round the nursery and store room. please make yourself familiar with where things are kept. if you do not know where to find something please ask

Parents

If a parent asks about their child’s progress or any particular problem, please refer them to a qualified member of staff.

If you have opened the door please ensure you close it properly and ensure the alarm is on.

Policies and guidelines

The Early Years Centre policies are available for you to refer to when you require further information. Please do not hesitate to ask to read any of them.

The children are our priority and we advocate their right to play, be safe and to learn. You will find out an Early Years Centre is a very busy place therefore you will be given time at the end of the day to talk to staff to plan and discuss future planned experiences and progress for students. It is expected that all students keep their written work up to date so that it can be used and discussed at these times.

We really hope you enjoy your time with us.
