3-5 Moon Room

Welcome to the Moon Room!

Please read our story here: 3-5 Welcome Story

Here our children aged 3-5 enjoy a variety of learning experiences. Our 3-5 playrooms can accommodate 80  Children. Our ratio is 1 member of staff to every 8 children.

The playroom is arranged into a range of areas to promote skills development in all areas of learning. We have a construction area, home corner/role play area, quiet reflection and reading den, a writing area, snack area, creative/messy area and other versatile spaces which change regularly depending on children’s current interests. We encourage children to explore literacy and numeracy through all areas of the playroom – you might find a child reading a recipe book in our home corner, or measuring a tower in the construction area! We also have a large garden space complete with mud kitchen, water wall and play boat. Children have access to the outdoor garden at all times and we ask that you bring weather appropriate clothing. We also utilise our surrounding local environment and the children enjoy going on a daily walk, using the multi use games area and park nearby and going into the local shops in town to help buy snack and other items for the early years centre.

The children continue to enjoy extended times to explore their own interests within the playroom and also enjoy small and larger group times throughout the day to support the development of key skills. Staff utilise the Early Level of a Curriculum for Excellence to plan appropriate and stimulating experiences for individual children within their care. Staff take into consideration the children’s current interests through observing them at play and consulting with them. They use this as a context for learning and this will be shared with you on our information board outside the playroom to allow you to support learning at and from home.

We see parents as the child’s first educator and encourage you to become involved in your child’s learning experiences in our centre as much as possible. If you can offer any skills/experience/ides to support a context please speak to a member of staff. For other opportunities for involvement see our Parents and Families section.
