Literacy
In Literacy, we will be looking to revise our phonics knowledge and build our use of different sounds. We will be looking to learn some new common words, and have daily opportunities to practice these.
We have been focusing on a Talk for Writing text ‘The Sandwich Swap’ which explores friendship and kindness and this has allowed us to explore the themes of stories in better depth.
We have some different Halloween themed texts to work with in order to increase our reading and metalinguistic skills. We have been working on predicting and summarising so far.
Numeracy
In Numeracy, we have been focusing on addition and subtraction and the relationship between them. We have used part – part – whole models, number bonds and a range of concrete materials when considering this. We have been revising number formation and building confidence when using different numbers, as well as reinforcing our knowledge of the 2 times table.
In Number Talks, we will continue to work on word problems and develop different strategies within addition and subtraction.
In our Numeracy topic, we have been exploring money in real life contexts and finding total amounts and change. We will then be moving on to explore shape and pattern.
RE
In RE, throughout October, we have a focus on Our Lady and exploring different stories about Mary.
We are preparing for our Primary 3 children to make the Holy Sacrament of Reconciliation in December. We are reflecting upon the things that we are sorry for and how we can ask for and show forgiveness.
Health and Wellbeing
In Health and Wellbeing, we have been identifying different emotions and how we display these emotions. We have been working to develop our self-regulation strategies and discuss the more difficult emotions that we may feel. This has allowed us to consider the Growth Mindset and how we can achieve a positive mindset within school. Therefore approaching every day ready to learn and excited to accept different opportunities.
We have also been focusing on friendships and kindness, allowing everyone to feel safe and respected within the classroom and in school. We have looked at how to show kindness and the impact that this can have on our own wellbeing when we treat others with compassion and respect.
