This week we began to learn about electricity and how to be safe around it. We carried out experiments with balloons and different types of paper to see if we could create static electricity. We rubbed the balloons with our jumpers then held it above different types of cut paper and were amazed to see the lighter types of paper jump onto our balloon. When we wet the balloon with water it got rid of the static electricity and the paper didn’t jump onto it. Next week we are going to be making electrical circuits.
engineer from KCP Environmental visited us and told us all about engineering and what she does. We had the chance to ask her lots of questions. Now we are busy thinking about problems that we can solve by inventing something. Lots of us want to invent something that helps us tidy our rooms.

With the start of British Science Week on the 10th of Match and our STEM week starting on the 13th of March we will be looking at a range of Science topics including Energy; Electricity; and the Sun and Moon. We will also be using a range of Technologies and looking at ways we can construct objects.

We will also be learning about wow words and creating leaflets in our writing tasks. Then during our STEM topic we will be creating and performing class talks about Scottish inventors and engineers to develop our listening and talking skills.
