History

Heathfield Primary School has been an important part of the community in Ayr and Prestwick since 1931. The original school building is still being used today.

Since being built in 1931 the school has seen many changes. The most recent extension at Heathfield has been a resounding success, providing the children and staff with a light, bright school fit for the 21st century.

Pupils, staff and the wider community celebrated the news that the extension at South Ayrshire Council’s Heathfield Primary was a finalist in the prestigious Doolan Awards – Scotland’s Best Building of the Year and has received an award from the Glasgow Institute of Architects.

The Glasgow Institute of Architects awarded Heathfield Primary School the best Design Award for 2012. The award reflects the redevelopment and extension of the existing school. The Institute noted ‘the redevelopment respects the scale and line of the original school frontage, removes the clutter to the rear and meshes the existing building with a new sports hall, dining hall and external courtyard at the heart of a new compact rectilinear building plan’.

The pupils, staff and the wider community recognise how fortunate we are to have such outstanding facilities at our school. We have a long history at Heathfield Primary School which is retained in the old part of the building and we have a bright future which is reflected in the extension.

The unique blend of old and new has enhanced Heathfield Primary School while holding on to is more traditional values. The perfect mix to ensure Heathfield’s strong reputation remains within the school and wider community.
