Location & Catchment

Ayr is the largest of the Clyde coast holiday towns and is situated about 35 miles south-west of Glasgow looking over the Firth of Clyde towards the island of Arran. It is a large, lively town, famous for its seaside location, variety of shops and the racecourse. Alloway village, where the famous poet Robert Burns was born, lies on Ayr’s doorstep along with Burns Heritage Centre and Burns Monument.

Ayr Grammar Primary School, recently moved into the old Ayr Academy building in Fort Street Ayr. This building is Category B listed, and is on a site with a rich history, where learning and teaching dates back to the 13th century. The current building was constructed in 1880, and recently underwent extensive refurbishment that has sensitively maintained the important heritage of the original building whilst creating a learning space fit for a Primary School in the 21st century.
