Term 2

Science

Primary 4 have been busy learning all about the water cycle in science this term. We really enjoyed making a water cycle in a bag to observe the different stages of the water cycle. P4 can tell you all about evaporation, condensation and precipitation!

Outdoor Learning

It was a cold and windy day but Primary 4 still had an amazing time at Culzean doing some outdoor learning. We did a scavenger hunt on the beach and had lots of fun at the park!

Children in Need

It was a very cold and wet day for Miss Pollock but all of the boys and girls had a great time soaking the teacher for Children in Need. Well done Primary 4!

Talk for Writing

Primary 4 have been learning the finding tale ‘Adventures at Sandy Cove’ in term 2. We have created a story map and actions to help us to retell the story. Now we are learning how to build suspense to keep our reader HOOKED on our story! Check back here for some super finding tales…

Numeracy

We have been focussing on data handling this term in P4. We have been gathering information and displaying it in different ways. P4 can now interpret and display data on bar graphs, pictograms, Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams. P4 have also been busy learning the 3, 6 and 9 times tables. They can show you how to use a bar model for multiplication and division…WOW!

Busy Bees with Miss Lee

The term as flown by and we have been very busy on a Wednesday with Miss Lee!

Numeracy

We have been focusing on measure this term in P2. We have measuring the length and height of objects using a ruler in centimetres and as well as metre sticks to measure in metres. P2 can now convert metres in to centimetres…WOW!

We have had fun finding  active ways to learn how to measure, take a look at what we have been up to in our pictures below.

We have been focusing on our number bonds through daily tens with Miss Lee. We have used concrete materials such as cubes to support our learning and we have now moved on to our blueprint boards which we love using in class!

HWB

On a Tuesday afternoon, we focus on our HWB. This term we are learning about the importance of kindness, coinciding with Anti Bulling Week. We have participated in a series of lessons to support this, including my favourite; the crumpled heart.

The message I want the pupils to take from this term is-

‘IN A WORLD WHERE YOU CAN BE ANYTHING, BE KIND!’ I know in my heart that my P2s are fabulous friends to one another!

Outdoor Learning

The rain didn’t stop P2 having lots of fun on our outdoor learning session with Ryan from Active Schools at the end of November! The boys and girls looked after Miss Lee as she is not a fan of the rain!

CHRISTMAAAAS IS COMING!!!

It’s that time of year again at Gardenrose! This year it is very different as we would be rehearsing for our spectacular Nativity, however due to COVID it will just have to wait until next year. Miss Lee does love her Nativity, but don’t worry I still have my sassy angels and rogue sheep to entertain me in class! We have been busy making very special Christmas cards for you to enjoy and we are learning ‘Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer’ in Makaton throughout the festive period.

P2 would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Play based learning 26.11.20

We focused on numeracy during our open area time. We used ten frames to practise our number bonds to 20, and we consolidated our addition and subtraction by playing a game where we rolled 2 dice and used the numbers we rolled to form by either addition or subtraction one of the numbers on our game board. We also used some Pom poms to practise with concrete materials to really make sure we know our number bonds – we were all maths magicians today and worked so hard! ⭐️

Outdoor learning 24.11.20

The PM group and Miss Morrison had a super afternoon of outdoor learning at Culzean! We learned all about volcanoes and made our own with fizzy juice bottled and mints and we buried them in the sand to make them look like real volcanoes before we let them erupt. We also had a scavenger hunt on the beach to find different items and we played a game of tug of war to finish off our day.

Literacy 20.11.20

We used the Nelson spelling programme on the interactive white board to practice our capital letter formation x we had to trace the letter with correct formation without touching the sides of lines! We had lots of fun practising this way and it helped us to form our letters before our next writing lesson ✏️✏️
