VE Day Activities

Hi P1/2,
I hope you all enjoyed a little break over the long weekend and spent some time in the lovely sunshine! This Friday we would be off school again because it’s the celebration of the 75th anniversary of VE day.
This teacher made some videos for her children to explain a little bit about VE day and I thought I would share them with you:
I have attached some activities to have a go at too. You can print the activities off to colour in or copy some of the pictures and draw designs yourself. I would love to see some of your work when you are finished 🙂

Slime Recipe

SLIME INGREDIENTS:
• 8-ounce/236ml white school glue
• 1 1/2 – 2 tablespoons contact saline solution, more as needed
• 1 tablespoon baking soda
• Food colouring and glitter, optional
 
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE SLIME
Add glue and food colouring to bowl. Squeeze the bottle of glue into a bowl. Add your food colouring if desired, and stir until combined. Then mix in baking soda.
Mix in saline solution. Add 1 1/2 Tablespoons saline solution and mix until combined. If it’s too sticky, add 1/2 Tablespoon more solution at a time. The more you add, the thicker it’ll be. The less you add, the slimier it’ll be .
Knead the slime. Using your hands, knead the slime until it holds together. It will be wet and gooey at first, but just keep kneading until it all comes together.
Store slime. Store slime in a container with lid, or in a zip top bag. The slime is best to play with on a place mat.
 
TIPS FOR MAKING SLIME
•Use plastic bowls and spoons to make clean up easier.
•Make sure to get the colour correct before adding the saline. It’s harder to mix in when it begins to thicken.
•For thicker slime, add more saline solution. For a slimier texture, add less saline.
•Slime is best to play with on a place mat, plastic tablecloth or even a trash bag.
•Can add in extras like glitter, scented oils or even mini styrofoam balls.
• Recipe makes about a cup of slime. Can double or triple based on how many kids there are.
• If you have long hair, make sure to put it into a pony tail. If a little slime gets in your hair, simply rub some coconut oil or olive oil on top and comb it out.

Story Time – Room on the Broom

Thought I would share another story and some ideas for follow up activities on here for you to have a go P1/2. Any P3/4s or EYC children who would also like to watch and join in, please feel free.

Room on the Broom Possible Activities

  • The witch has lost her hat! Can you design a new one for her that would make her look less scary?
  • Make a mini broom  (https://www.kiddycharts.com/assets/MakeaMiniBroom.pdf) and act out the story. Can you remember the order that the animals got on?
  • Think about who you would have on your broom. You could draw a picture of this.
  • Create your own potion! Write a recipe to let others try it. Try using natural materials outside to actually make it. Flower petals, blades of grass…
  • Can you describe the witch in 3 words? Use adjectives (describing words). Here is one to start you off… kind. Can you think of another 3?
