Jo Hall – Storyteller

We would like to say a great big ‘Thank You’ to Jo Hall for bringing her friend JoJo Gnome to visit. We enjoyed hearing about Jojo’s experiences in Sound Town where he lives and also the fantastic poem about the Christmas Tree.  Jo kindly drew us some pictures of Jojo which have been put in both playrooms…See if you can find him!

Festive Family Fun Day and Christmas Party

Dear all!

You are all invited to our Family Festive Fun Day on the 19th of December!  There are three time slots that you are able to choose from:

9am – 10am
10.30am – 11.30am
12.30 – 1.30pm

We’ve got a lot of Christmas activities and Christmas stations planned for you all to join in. We can’t wait to share the festivities with everybody! See you then!

On Thursday the 20th of December we are going to celebrate by having a Christmas party! Sessions are running as normal, party frocks welcome! 🙂 Party time for the boys and girls, we can’t wait!

Friday the 21st is our last day before we stop for Christmas break. The school and nursery close at 2.30pm that day, the door will be open for pick-up at 2.15pm that afternoon.

Thank you! 🙂

Christmas festivities!

Well… On Monday morning we were all very surprised to find a certain somebody in the nursery waiting on us to find him! …It was the Elf –  Santa’s helper, WOW! We all thought hard about what to call him and we decided to name him ‘Chippy’.  We learned that every night he travels back to the North Pole to tell Santa how busy we have all been at nursery.  Every morning we have to search all over the nursery to find Chippy’s hiding place – he is very good at finding new places to hide. But… We need to remember that we cannot touch Chippy or he may lose his magic, oh no, we wouldn’t want that to happen!

As it’s now December already we are all very excited for the festivities and have started to decorate our playrooms with lots of shiny, sparkly tinsel, baubles and other Christmas decorations.  Some of the boys and girls have even been creating their own Christmas keepsakes!  We also decorated our Christmas tree. Come and see for yourself how festive we have made our nursery!

Williamsburgh Bakery

We can be anything we want to be, so today we decided to be bakers! We turned one of our playrooms into our own wee bakery, which we named the Williamsburgh Bakery! Our speciality was delicious loaves of bread. You could spot us in our chefs hats, as we always remember how important keeping our hair away and our hands clean when baking or cooking is. We also didn’t forget our chef aprons, but that’s because we didn’t want our lovely clothes to get all dirty and floury ;). We worked very hard together (great teamwork!) to measure out all of the ingredients and we used our muscles to mix and knead the dough! We worked very hard to make sure the dough is nice and smooth! When it was all ready, we very carefully put the dough in the oven and… Voila! 20 minutes later, we had very delicious and still toasty warm bread to take home! And it smelled really delicious too!

J: “Teamwork makes the dream work!”
R: “We’re making bread and we get to take it home.”
B: “Actually, we’re making dough.”
SB: “I’m like a real baker because I’m making it really good.”
J: “That’s the ingredients we need.”
N: “This is like making play dough.”
O: “I haven’t cooked bread before!”
S: “It smells like pizza!”

We’re going on a Nutcracker hunt!

The boys and girls had a fantastic idea to go for a walk to find the Nutcrackers! We wrapped up warm in our jackets, gloves and hats and off we went! We all followed our safety rules when walking on the pavement and crossing the road – we counted down from 5 to wake up the green man! We arrived in the Piazza to be welcomed by a very tall Nutcracker, who pointed us in the direction of our Paisley Nutcracker Trail map to help us find out where the other Nutcrackers are hiding! We took a little walk through High Street and Paisley Centre to find not one, not two but three Nutcrackers! We decided we would come back another day to discover the rest of them as it was very chilly and we were all getting tired after our long trip! Well done to all the boys and girls for fantastic walking all the way to Paisley Centre and back, thumbs up for you all!

A: “It’s the Nutcracker King!”
P: “Look, he’s hiding behind the toys!”
R: “Nutcrackers come out for Christmas time, but it’s not Christmas time yet!”
N: “We found 4 already!”
J: “Let’s keep our eyes opened to find them.”

“You can’t stop the power of play”

Who knew wooden blocks and planks of wood could be so many things?! The boys and girls have been so creative with their play, both outside and inside! We have all been working very hard together to create lots of different things using simple resources – we love your great imagination! We also absolutely love how the boys and girls have been working together, including one another in their play, exchanging ideas, problem solving and, of course, helping each other! The older boys and girls have been very kindly making sure that the younger girls and boys are alright and taking them under their wing in their play, how fantastic!

The boys and girls have built cars, slides, ramps, car parks, weights and even dens! And we all have new ideas every single day, how exciting!

P: “We’re going to build a slide.”
N: “It’s too low, it won’t slide!”
J: “You can climb on it too, but you need to be very careful.”
L: “It’s great teamwork!”
G: “I’m building a new car for my friend D and it’s going to be a surprise.”
J: “My car has got two steering wheels.
G: “Do you want to help me build it?”
M: “Musimy teraz posprzatac.”

Dear parents and carers!

Let’s vote!

We have had lots and lots of fantastic ideas for our large group activities this week! On one of the days, we couldn’t quite decide what game to play with everybody, but… Do not fear! One of the children had a brilliant idea to make a voting station! We decided to use two different colours of buttons and voting tubes, WOW! Every day we had a choice of two different stories, games, songs, physical activities, even Twiggle made an appearence! There was something different everyday and something fun for everybody!

While casting a vote, the boys and girls were using fabuluous mathematical language! We were talking about which tube has got more buttons and which tower is taller before counting the votes to find out what activity won that particular day! The boys and girls have had so much fun, they’ve been asking to “make a vote” everyday they come in to the nursery! One of the children even suggested that maybe next week we could have FOUR options to vote from… Now, we think that is a fantastic idea!

R: “What did you vote for?”
B: “Which story did you choose?”
A: “Can I count the buttons?”
G: “We need to count the buttons to see which one has got more inside!”
R: “I think the blue one is taller than red.”
S: “The blue one has got less buttons.”
I: “I can’t wait to have four games to choose from!”

Dear parents and carers!

Just a wee reminder about warm clothes in our cold Scottish weather.  As the boys and girls have continuous access to our outdoor area on a daily basis, we are kindly asking that children come to nursery with appropriate warm clothing, ie warm jackets, gloves, scarves and hats, if possible.

Your co-operation is greatly appreciated, thank you!
