World War 2: Evacuation

This week in Primary 7b we have been learning about evacuation. Children, Older people, People with disabilities, pregnant mums and mums with very young children (under 4)  were evacuated to the country-side. The reason for this is because Germans were expected to bomb cities and factories and docks. School children were evacuated with their teachers then billeted to places like a farm or cottage and even rarely a big house. Children could only bring a small suitcase with things like their Sunday-best, socks, handkerchiefs and school clothes.

  1. Hi Luke,
This sounds like an interesting topic. While it must have been scary to be evacuated some children might have enjoyed a change of scene. My father was a young boy in WW2 and moved to the country to live with his aunt. He seemed to have a great time. I guess he was probably happier than most because he was staying with his cousins.
