Assessment and Development Class – Minibeast Hunt!

We have started a new topic all about  Minibeasts!

This week we have been reading the story ‘Mad About Minibeasts’

Today we talked about insects with no legs. We read the stories about worm, snail and slug.

Before lunch we went on Minibeast Hunt in the school as the sun was shining! We all successfully found some worms and slugs.

We also remembered to put them back where we found them when we were finished looking at them.

We all had a great time!

Playground Music with P6

P6 did some amazing  pieces of music for our music lesson.

We decided to use a glockenspiel, drumsticks and boomwhackers for our tunes. We all got into groups and we whacked them and played brilliant tunes. We only got to see two groups but we are sure they are all fabulous.

We really liked doing the music class outside and we want to do music in the playground again.

BBC Build It – Well worth a watch!

Our ‘Build it Scotland’ team at West Primary visit Paisley Abbey to research their chosen landmark, ahead of returning to school to get building in Minecraft and SketchUp. Their visit helps them to understand the materials they’ll need to build with and what design decisions they’ll need to make to ensure their 3D models are accurate.

Up-to-date with Primary 2

For the past few weeks, Primary 2 have been working on lots of different topics. P2b have been making moonlight silhouettes, Mosques and star constellations. P2c have been learning about Chinese symbols and Vincent Van Gogh which they have been doing some fantastic art on.

P6 Knex Starter Challenge

P6 take part in an annual Knex Challenge against other schools for a bit of fun.  We had some training before we made our Knex item so we knew what we are doing.

First we made a simple triangle. We all thought it was easy so we did a slightly harder challenge. We made a cube but it wobbled about, so we put triangles at the side and it was steady. We all thought that was easy as well so we made a Bridge from an exact copy that Castlehead High School made. It was much harder! After that we had a test to see who would get to go to the semi-finals so we had to make a transporter that would hold an orange and a water bottle.  Lee and Darren came 3rd; Jorja and Emily came 2nd and Kara and Sarah came 1st.

Thank you Castlehead for coming in and helping us with our fabulous creations!

P6 Easter Bonnets

It’s tradition that Primary 6 at West make an Easter bonnet and then do a parade at the Easter Service. In each class there are prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. All the bonnets were wonderful and had loads of thought put into them but Mrs Ferguson had to pick winners. In Mrs Terris’ class Byron was 1st, 2nd was Kirstie and 3rd was Jacob. In Mrs Campbell/Mrs Clark’s class in 1st was Kaiden, 2nd was Elise and 3rd was Ashley.

P2 Eid Afternoon

To finish our RE topic about Eid we plan to have an activity afternoon on Friday 1 April. The children can wear or bring a change of clothes for the afternoon.

We will also be making a variety of snacks to be eaten. These will include riata with yoghurt, cucumber, spicy onions, poppadoms, naan bread and sampling Indian food.

The children will be drawing Mehndi patterns on each other’s hands with kohl pencils.

Please let us know if your child cannot take part in any of these activities.

P2 Parent-Teacher Meeting

The Parents’ Evening for Primary 2 will not take place next week with the rest of the school due to staff absence. We will have the Parents’ Evening for Primary 2 after the April holidays.

We felt that this would allow us to offer you the best quality feedback.

If you have any concerns and would like to speak to your child’s teacher before this, please do not hesitate to contact the school to make an appointment.
