Fruit Tasting
Butterflies Away!
On Tuesday we had five butterflies! All of our caterpillars turned into beautiful butterflies!
On Wednesday we set the butterflies free! We took them into the garden and let them fly free in time for the holiday weekend! Hopefully they enjoy a sunny long weekend….just like us! Keep an eye out for some beautiful butterflies in the garden.
Caterpillar News!
Today we arrived in class and had a look at the butterfly habitat. There was a BIG surprise. We had three butterflies fluttering about! Mrs Johnston managed to get some fruit and we scored the fruit and put it in the habitat so the butterflies had some food. We watched the new butterflies smell the fruit with their antennae, taste with their feet and unfurl their proboscises to sip the nectar!
After playtime we noticed that we had a new butterfly…….We now have four beautiful Painted Lady butterflies fluttering in the habitat! Fingers crossed that we have five tomorrow!!
We will make up the butterfly food and feed them everyday until they are ready to fly away!
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Our Caterpillars!
Assessment and Development Class – New Friends!!
This week we were really excited as a special parcel was delivered to the class! 5 caterpillars have joined us in the class!!
We will be watching the caterpillars eat all the food they have in their special cup and then in 7 to 14 days they will climb to the top of the cup and attach themselves to the paper lid. We are hoping to see them change into beautiful butterflies!
The caterpillars are on our minibeast table and have started crawling about their cup and eating their special food. We will keep you updated on their progress!
We are all looking forward to returning to the Assessment and Development Class on Tuesday to see if the caterpillars have been eating their food and have grown!
