Social Studies

Through social studies, children and young people develop their understanding of the world by learning about other people and their values, in different times, places and circumstances; they also develop their understanding of their environment and of how it has been shaped.

We cover a wide range of topics and mini topics that include the concepts within social studies and they are taught under three key areas.

  • People, Past Events and Societies
  • People, Place and Environment
  • People in Society, Economy and Business

At St. Paul’s, there is a strong focus on our community, Renfrewshire and Scotland within our work as we look at the impact of different past events, people and our local environment.

Teachers ensure contexts for learning are very motivating and engaging for our children.  However, contexts for learning may change and develop from year to year as children are involved with planning their topic and teachers plan responsively.
