Scottish Child Payments

I am writing on behalf of the Scottish Government as we mark the important milestone of extending Scottish Child Payment.

This week the payment has become available to all eligible children from birth until they reach their 16th birthday.

This means thousands of children aged between six and 16 are now eligible for
Scottish Child Payment for the first time. The payment has increased from £20 per week per child to £25 per week per child.

Scottish Child Payment extends to under 16s and automatic payments for other benefits

•Scottish Child Payment has extended to include all eligible children from the age of six until they turn 16

•It is a payment of £100 every four weeks for each eligible child under the age of 16

•Check if you are eligible for Scottish Child Payment and apply now at mygov.scot/benefits or by calling 0800 182 2222

•Families are also being urged to make sure they don’t miss out on a double December Bridging Payment of £260

•The December Bridging Payments will be made before the start of the Christmas holidays for children who receive Free School Meals on the basis of low income on 30 November. Payments for children who are subsequently registered and become eligible for Free School Meals ahead of the Christmas holidays will be made as soon as possible in the new year

•You may also be eligible for other benefits, you can find out more here

Renfrewshire’s free rewards campaign

If you live or work in Renfrewshire and would like to earn rewards and support local businesses and charities, you are invited to sign up to Renfrewshire Council’s exciting new Not Far? Leave the Car campaign, which is now live and runs until the end of December.

The campaign rewards you, through the free to use BetterPoints app, for engaging in a more active and sustainable lifestyle by choosing to walk, run, wheel, cycle and take public transport more often. Participants earn points for their activities, which they can then use to support local businesses by exchanging points earned for exclusive discounts and offers from retailers within the app.  There will also be a host of other rewards and prizes on offer and participants can also choose to donate their rewards to local charities.

Taking part in the challenge is easy:

  • Download the free BetterPoints app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Register your details, join the ‘Not Far? Leave the Car’ programme and use the BetterPoints app to track your active journeys.
  • Reward points are automatically credited to your account for eligible journeys.

The BetterPoints app has helped thousands of people across the UK and Europe to adopt greener and healthier habits.
