HT Update – End of week

We are now at the end of our 4th week of Home Learning and I would like to take this opportunity again to let you know how incredibly proud we all are to be part of the St David’s community.

It has been wonderful to hear from so many of you on the phone, via text, by email and on the Facebook page. We hope to speak to even more of you next week. Please remember we are always here if you need anything at all.

We want to make sure that we are getting Home Learning right for everyone and have created a brief survey to gather your opinions. It should only take a couple of minutes to complete and as always, your feedback is invaluable to determining our next steps.

You can access the survey by clicking on this link:  https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=oyzTzM4Wj0KVQTctawUZKT3Ew0Z-Q85Bv5om4Pf6v_NUMTRCTVJKWUpXR1IxVVJVSEFJOENOMkRUMi4u

Primary 1 Friday 1st May 2020

Morning Primary 1

As usual, let’s start off with you singing the days of the Week song….

Which day of the week is it today? Which day is it tomorrow? Which day was it yesterday? Which day comes after Wednesday?

Now can you sing your Spanish hello song (Hola, Hola)

Fabulous, well done. Can you tell an adult how you are feeling today in Spanish? (adult: fantastico, bien, regular or mal)

Numeracy:

Warm up….

  • Can you count up in 2’s
  • Can you count on from 3 up to 16?
  • Can you count back from 17 and stop at 2?

Task

  • I’d like you to get a piece of blank paper.
  • On the paper can you ask an adult to draw out a simple path like the picture above:
  • Now blindfold the adult (or ask them to close their eyes but no peeking!) and give them a pen.
  • Now the child has to give verbal instructions to help guide the adult around the ‘course’ (go forward, turn right etc.)
  • Now swap over and the adult can give you instructions for getting around the course while you are blindfolded!
  • Now for a challenge, can you make the course longer and more complicated?
  • For even more of a challenge, can you try not to touch the sides of the course as you draw!

Send any photos of your course and directions to the Facebook page so I can see please…

Literacy

In your Learning Packs you will find 4 word walls…

Practise reading word walls out loud with an adult. Keep practising every day to grow your reading skills…

Now it’s time to practise your spelling

  • Get a tray from the kitchen
  • Ask an adult to pour a small amount of flour onto the tray
  • Choose 4 of the words from your word wall and practise saying them out loud again
  • Try to write each word in the flour with your finger
  • Did you get it right?

Challenge: Can you choose an extra 2 words?

Alternative: If you don’t have access to these resources then can you choose 4 words and write each letter using a different coloured pen just like a rainbow?

Science task

Let’s be scientists!

-Get 6 plastic bowls.

-Choose different things to put in them e.g. salt, coffee, cereal, sugar, flour, porridge oats, a biscuit.

-Pour some water into each bowl.

-Which items dissolve and which don’t?

-Why do you think this is?

Have fun doing your tasks….

Have a lovely weekend!

Winter time

Primary one outside
Puddle Jumping
A tree without leaves
Tree reflected in puddle.

Today primary one ventured out into the playground to explore the changes outside during winter. Our class were very good at explaining to myself and Mrs Lamont what the different changes were,

“There’s no leaves on the trees” Emily and Oliver

“The grass is wet” Kian

“The birds are picking up berries from the ground.” Grant

“It’s raining” Kelson

“The ground is wet.” Paul

Maicey said “There’s branches on the ground” and Amelia told us “that’s because it’s windy!”

Matthew was in charge of taking photos and he took some beautiful photos! My favourite is the trees reflected in puddles, “It’s like a mirror.”

Skoobmobile

Primary one had a very exciting afternoon today!

We had a visit from the Skoobmobile, we were SO excited!!

On the bus we read “The Prince and the Witch and the Thief and the Bears” then we went back to class and drew an alternative ending for the story! We also drew another lost item for Maurice in the “Station Mouse” and played pin the horn on the unicorn as we  enjoyed “Sophie Johnson Unicorn Expert.”

We are  going to vote on our favourite book and send it away to Bookbug!

Anti-Bullying Week in P1

During our Circle Time on Monday Primary 1 talked about kindness and what it means to be a good friend.

On Tuesday, along with our joint campus, we listened to a talk from the NSPCC who were sharing the message “Stay Safe, Speak Out”

Wednesday’s learning included some writing on what it means to be a good friend.

Today we enjoyed wearing odd socks to school today to celebrate Anti-Bullying Week 2019 remembering that we are all different.

This tied in nicely with primary 1’s learning today based on our school values. Whilst learning about one of our school values, Respect, we talked about what it means to respect others and what this value looks like in our class and school.
