School Information

School day

The school day in all departments is 9.15am – 3.15pm.

Early Learning & Childcare Centre

Children at the Nursery / Pre-5 stage have a flexible allocation of time with a minimum of 600 hours per year up to a maximum of 1140 hours per year (when possible). The allocation of these hours is arranged to suit the needs of individual children and families.

There is scope for flexibility at the Pre 5 stages, and desired attendance patterns can be arranged in discussion with the Head Teacher (Michelle Welsh) or Depute Head of Centre (Donna Ferris). The Early Learning and Childcare Centre is open 52 weeks per year. There is the option of ‘wrap-around’. This should also be arranged with the Head Teacher / Depute Head of Centre.

Primary

Children at the P1 – P7 stage have a school day of 5hrs 10mins and a school week of 25hrs 50mins – this is longer than national guidelines, however, there is some overlap time each day in relation to school transport

Secondary

Young people at the S1 – S6 stage have a school day of 5hrs 30mins and a school week of 27hrs 30mins

Lunchtime in all departments spans across 11.45am – 1.15pm. Over this period there are several ‘sittings’. For the young people, lunchtime is broken into 2 x 30min slots – ‘eating’ and ‘free’ time. ‘Eating’ time is counted as learning and teaching time, this contributes to the total of the School Week.

Children in P1 – P7 also have a 20 minute break-time usually in the morning. This is ‘free’ time. Classes arrange their own break-time at the most convenient point of the day and in response to the needs of the children.

Please note that there may, at times, be some flexibility in these timings associated with arrival and departure of school transport. There may also be some adjustments on an individual basis, responding to the specific needs of children / young people.
