European Day of Languages

Bonjour                Guten Tag            Hola               Halla                Hej

Our school will be celebrating European Day of Languages on Wednesday 26th September.  Our theme this year is celebrating how useful it is to know a second (or third) language.  We would like to invite any parents/grandparents who speak another language to come and speak to a group (not the whole school) of children to let them see how knowing more than one language has been useful to you.  If your first language is not English, it would be great if you could teach us a few words in that language eg. hello, numbers to 10 or how are you. If you are able to help, please leave a message at the school office for Mrs Ferguson P3F.

Merci                   Danke                   Gracias            Tak                    Tack

Homework Letters

Hi there

Homework letters have been issued today and are in your child’s book bag. I will also post the letter details on here. Word walls will also be given out to children next week.

P2 Homework Letter (P2G)

We hope that you have all had a super summer. The children are all settling in well to their new routines and we are all enjoying getting to know each other.

P.E. days will be Thursday and Friday, however we intend to participate in a daily mile and so it would be much appreciated if the children had the appropriate footwear and a waterproof jacket everyday.

Please see the table below for a detailed outline of homework tasks. Covering homework diaries and jotters would be most helpful, thank you. Book Bags should be brought to school everyday.

Day Homework Issued Homework Task Day Homework Submitted
Monday Spelling – words to be written out twice, neatly.   Add at least 2 of your own words using the same rule. Write one sentence with a spelling rule word and one sentence with a common word. Friday

Our Spelling Test and Dictation will be on a Friday morning. Results can be seen in the back of your child’s homework jotter.

Monday

Maths Activity Thursday of the same week.
Monday Reading – new books given out weekly. Friday. On Friday your child will hand in their reading book and their book bag will stay in class. They will receive a new reading book on Monday.

Encouraging your child to read a variety of texts will enhance and enrich their literacy skills. This can be absolutely anything that they are interested in: novels, picture books, recipe books, comics or non-fiction books. There will be plenty of opportunities for your child to talk about the books he/she has read. We really appreciate the time you take with your child to support their learning. Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Many thanks,

Miss Grant

Wet Weather in the Morning

Should it be wet in the morning before school, the infant doors will be opened by a staff member.  You are then able to send your child into the school building and your child will wait outside their classroom until the school bell rings.

Many Thanks,

The Primary Two Team

Homework This Week

The focus for homework this week is Reading for Enjoyment. The children have selected a book from the class library that they are interested in. This should be read with an adult and, then please discuss the story using the 3 Sharings – (1)Something you liked and disliked about the book (2) A question/puzzle about the book and (3) A connection you can make with the book.

Our PE days this year are Monday and Friday. If children have earrings in on these days, they have to be able to take them out themselves, or put tape over them.

Diaries have been given out today and children should hand them in each day to be checked by the teacher. This is when we will see any notes or letters.

I hope you enjoy reading together this week.

Miss Hunter.

Week Beginning 20/8/18

Good Morning! What a fantastic week we have ahead!

Pupils have personally chosen a reading for pleasure book today and have taken it home in their reading bags. I have asked that they read the book with an adult over the week and be ready to share one like about the book and one dislike about the book for Friday 24th August.

Spelling Homework will be issued next week, however pupils will be completing work on their first sound, sh, in class this week. This will allow them to take part in the normal spelling homework activities that they will complete next week at home. This will include:

  • writing the words out twice (4 spelling rule words and 4 common words)
  • finding different words with the rule (an extra 2 in their homework jotters)
  • Writing one sentence for one of their spelling rule words and one sentence for one of their common words

Maths Homework will be issued next week.

For PE lessons, girls wearing earrings have been asked to either remove them before PE or tape them back for heath and safety.

I hope you have a fabulous week!

Miss Grant, Miss Finnigan and Mrs Kane

A Great First Couple of Days!

Hi everyone!

It has been so exciting to get to meet you and get to know you. I hope you have enjoyed your first couple of days in Primary 2. Homework will start next week so make sure to bring your homework diaries in. Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. I know many of you have already brought your PE kit into class. Feel free to place any letters or notes into homework diaries and I will get them when I collect the diaries in each day.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Miss Grant

Getting to Know You

We are having a lovely first day in Primary 2.  What a GREAT bunch of children.

This afternoon I will be sharing my all about me bag with the children.  If your child would like to, they could make up a little bag of their own,  of no more than three items.  Each item should tell us something about them. For example, ballet shoes if they love ballet, a walking shoe if they enjoy hillwalking or colouring pens if they love to draw.

We will look at 4/5 bags a day over the next week or so, and your child, should they wish,  will get the chance to talk to the class about their personal items.

PE days are Mondays and Fridays so it would be fantastic if all PE kits were in school by the end of the week.  Miss Hunter has lots of exciting games and activities planned for the children, in the gym hall!

Many thanks,

Mrs Simpson

Hello from Uganda

Hello everyone!

Hope you are are very well and having a super summer holiday. We have been in Uganda for ten days now and it is absolutely fantastic – what a wonderful experience.

I work with teachers at Kiyuya Primary and Nyambindo Primary and have been spending time in every stage, working with teachers on things they want to develop. There are lots of children in both schools but all very kind and friendly – much like all of you!

I have popped some photos below so you can see what its like in the Primary 1 class.

Will check in again – Miss Cauley 🙂
