Homework w/b 4/3/19

Good Morning everyone!

Thank you so much for your generosity last week for Fairtrade. We really enjoyed the experience and had great fun baking our Fairtrade goodies.

Here is our homework for the week ahead:

Reading

The children have been issued with their new reading book. The children have already been spotting ‘ow’ (as in crow) words in their reading books.

Maths

The children have issued with a subtraction worksheet to complete. They can use the hundred square at the front of their diaries to help them. They know to ‘jump’ back to subtract.

Spelling

Our sound this week is ‘ow ’. The spelling words we chose were:

Red Group: bow, show, throw, blow.

Blue Group: window, pillow, shadow, tomorrow.

Our common words this week are:

now, find, its and down.

Tommy the Tree Frog has been given out to a child today and is due back on Wednesday if possible. When he is given out on Wednesday he is due back on a Friday.

We are celebrating world book day on Friday. This will be a non-uniform day and I have asked the children to bring in their favourite book from home in order to tell us about it. They were issued with sponsorship forms a short while ago for the Reading Challenge if they are taking part.

Thanks

Homework w/b 25th February

Good Morning everyone! I can’t believe it’s almost March already!

Here is our homework for the week ahead:

Reading

The children have been issued with their new reading book.

Maths

The children have been issued with an odd and even worksheet to complete. We have been working on number patterns in class and have gotten really good at recognising odd and even numbers. We know that even numbers end in 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8, whereas odd numbers end in 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9.

Spelling

Our sound this week is ‘y ’ for long ‘i’. The spelling words we chose were:

Red Group: cry, try, sky and flying.

Blue Group: python, butterfly, myself and crying.

Our common words this week are:

been, called, who and am.

Tommy the Tree Frog has been given out to a child today and is due back on Wednesday if possible. When he is given out on Wednesday he is due back on a Friday.

Throughout the next two weeks children will be helping to sell Fairtrade products at our Fairtrade tuckshop at playtimes. . As well as selling the products, your child will be able to purchase these too; all items will be £1.

On Tuesday we have a group coming in called Rainbow Turtle to give us a workshop on all things Fairtrade.

On Friday we are having a very special visit from some residents at the Erskine Care home. We will be spending time with them, playing games and singing with them. After our visit we will be having a Fairtrade tea party within the class. As part of our Maths learning in school we have been learning about measure, in particular weight. As a fun optional homework task we kindly ask that you share in your child’s learning at home by baking a Fairtrade item and bringing it to school on Friday for our tea party. This is optional, but would be a lovely experience for the children if it is at all possible.

Thanks

Thanks

Engineering

On Tuesday we started creating our cars. We used the designs we had made to choose materials to bring our design to life.

We discussed how we were using engineering skills such as creative problem solving, adapting and improving to create our cars and how it was good to change things if we find they aren’t working as we would like.

We worked well together in our groups and can’t wait to get back to it after the February weekend!

Global Play Day

Yesterday was Global Play Day and I think we can all agree we all had a lot of fun.

It was so nice to see all the children sharing their toys and playing so well. They took turns, shared and showed kindness to one another. I was also challenged to beat them at a few games.

We had some beautiful rainforest themed artwork going on too and some lovely shared reading. It was lovely to see how well everyone worked together.

Burns Assembly

Primary 2 had a great time at the Burns assembly today. We enjoyed hearing all the fantastic Scottish poems and supporting our friends. We also loved being able to sing Sam the Skull to the rest of the assembly. We heard about the life of Robert Burns and sang Auld Lang Syne.

Thank you to all the parents who helped us learn our poems. We really enjoyed it and have loved learning all the Scots words!
