Good evening,
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend, and I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Happy New Year! I’d also like to thank you for the gifts and well wishes received before the holidays.
It was wonderful to see the children last week and hear their holiday tales. We are getting used to our new table groups and have been working very hard!
This week children will receive reading and language homework, but no maths. Sumdog can be played at home.
Reading:
Reading books will be issued tomorrow. If you are able, please take some time to discuss the following questions (if applicable) with your child:
Who is your favourite character and why?
Did you like the ending of the book? Why?
Was there anything you would change about the book?
What did you like about the book?
What did you dislike about the book?
Did anything puzzle you about the book?
Language:
Instead of spelling, a sheet will be issued asking your child to identify features within a sentence. They will also be asked to rewrite the sentence to make it more interesting. An example of how to do this will be given on the sheet.
Spelling will recommence wk beg 15.01.18
Word Walls:
Will be issued wk beg 15.01.18
Other News:
Engineering Project:
Thank you very much to those who have already brought in shoeboxes. Primary 2C will be participating in an exciting engineering project this term. If you have spare shoeboxes of any size (with a detachable lid) I would be very grateful if you could send them into school.
Gym Kits:
Most children took their gym things home at the end of last term. These can now be returned to class as P.E. will resume this week. Our gym days are Wednesday and Thursday.
Scottish Celebrations:
In preparation for our annual Burns’ celebration, children will be introduced to a selection of Scottish poems this week. They should then choose one of these poems to learn at home. This poem will be recited in front of the class at a later date.
More information about this piece of homework will follow later in the week.
Have a fantastic week and thank you for your support!
