P6/7 Newsletter
Term 1
What an excellent first term we have had in Primary 6/7. We have really challenged ourselves to work as hard as possible. Our positive attitude has paid off and it has been very busy and successful.
What have we been up to?
Bikeability Training- P7s participated in the Bikeability Level 2 Course where they developed skills and confidence to enable them to cycle on the roads safely. Pupils enjoyed being on their bikes and being able to cycle to and from school safely. Thank you to all who helped to deliver the course.
P6 Swimming- P6s enjoyed attending Erskine Swimming Pool for two sessions of swimming lessons. Everyone worked hard to improve their swimming skills.
The Scottish Maths Challenge- The Scottish Maths Challenge is a nationwide problem solving competition distributed by the Scottish Mathematical Council. P7 pupils as well as some of our P6 pupils participated in the challenge. Round 1 entries were submitted at the end of September. The questions were tough but the pupils rose to the challenge and persevered to submit solutions with which they were satisfied. We look forward to participating in Round 2 this term.
Maths Week Scotland- To acknowledge Maths Week Scotland, the P6/7 class participated in activities to celebrate maths in our everyday lives. We particularly enjoyed ‘The Playground Hunt’, the outdoor ‘Maths Relay Race’ and the ‘Loop Card’ challenge. We also put our maths skills into practise to beat ‘The Escape Room’ by solving challenging problems against the clock.
Topic- During term 1, our topic was Natural Disasters. We enjoyed investigating what causes hurricanes and volcanoes and created interesting fact files and posters about them. We created fantastic newspaper reports about the recent flooding in Florida and we painted pictures of tsunamis in the style of Katsushika Hokusai. We also wrote poems inspired by ‘The Storm’ by Cameron Gallant. We especially enjoyed participating in a primary jazz workshop over 3 weeks, where external musicians facilitated our composition based upon a thunderstorm, which we performed on the glockenspiels. This topic was a great success and the pupils found the variety of tasks very engaging.
Football- Our football team have now played 2 matches against other schools within our cluster. Games have been hard fought and the team look forward to the rest of the season. Good luck!
Rugby- All pupils have participated in 3 sessions of rugby training lead by a Development Officer from Bishopton Rugby Club. For many, rugby was a new skill and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking on something new.
Road Race- We are extremely proud of all our pupils who participated in the Renfrewshire Schools Road Race at the ON-X Linwood. The pupils represented Langbank Primary excellently and pushed themselves to do their best and complete the course.
