Health & Wellbeing
Our Health and Wellbeing programme includes a wide variety of topics relating to Physical, Emotional and Social health.
Our P.E programme aims to develop the skills and techniques needed in gymnastics, games and athletics through the Renfrewshire Pack. In addition, our Active Schools Coordinator provides a number of opportunities for children to attend sports clubs and activities.
Each class has two one hour periods of physical education a week.
There are also opportunities to participate in sport through a wide range of after school clubs, e.g. football, badminton, rugby, dance, athletics, basketball, streetdance etc. Our running club members have enjoyed past success in the Renfrewshire Road Races and our pupils are regularly invited to festivals and tournaments to use their newly acquired skills in competitive situations.
We have recently updated the way we plan for the teaching of Health and Wellbeing to ensure that our children learn progressively about all aspects of Health and Wellbeing including Road Safety, Substance Misuse, Sexual Health, Food and Nutrition and Emotional Wellbeing.
We have introduced termly one to one meetings with teachers and pupils with the focus on discussing emotional wellbeing.
PATHS
We currently use the PATHS programme to help children learn about their emotions and develop skills such as resilience and emotional problem solving. Children get at least an hour a week of PATHS. This has had a very positive impact on positive behaviour and relationships within the school.
Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood education is an integral part of a school’s health education programme. All lessons are planned and delivered in line with the Renfrewshire Council Resource ‘Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood Education’.
On an occasion where a parent/carer wishes to exercise the right to withdraw his/her child from Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood education lessons, they should discuss their concerns and make alternative arrangements with school staff.
