Primary 7 Transition Information

June 2020

Dear Primary 7 Pupils, Parents and Carers,

I’d like to begin by thanking each and every one of you for your support and kindness over the last few months.  Our Primary 7 pupils have had a year like no other and have shown themselves to be sensible, hardworking and resilient in the face of very challenging circumstances, circumstances unlike we have ever had to face.

We had hoped that we would all be able to come back together to celebrate the culmination of seven years of primary school education, however the current situation dictates that this year will be slightly different.  The plans for transition will be outlined below but please be assured that health and safety guidelines will be adhered to throughout.  With this in mind it is important to note that current local authority risk assessments specify that no parents or carers will be able to enter the building.  In addition, if you as a family feel that you are in a vulnerable group or are concerned in any way about the return to the building in June, there is no expectation for you to do so.  I leave this decision open for each family to make an informed choice.

In order to help you make such a decision I wish to go in to detail regarding the plans which have been created through discussion with pupils, Miss Lynas and Mrs Ralston.

Transition Activities

These take place over four school days, from 18 – 23 June 2020

Johnstone High School Staff Visit

  • Primary 7 pupils will be invited into the school to meet with Johnstone High staff, and of course Miss Lynas, on Thursday 18 June 1300 – 1500.
  • Children will be arranged in 4 groups across 4 classes and teachers will visit each group in turn
  • We ask that you begin to arrive from 1230 onwards to allow social distancing rules to be adhered to and to give pupils time to wash their hands before entering the class.
  • The children will arrive and leave via the main entrance and will wash hands thoroughly before leaving.
  • All pupils are welcome to attend however if your child is going to a different secondary school you may wish for them to remain at home. The decision to attend is at the discretion of families.

  • The children will arrive and leave via the main entrance and will wash hands thoroughly before leaving.
  • The class will be split over 3 class bases with staffing to allow for Miss Lynas to move between all three throughout the morning
  • 0930: Pupils will be welcomed back by Miss Lynas and other members of staff who will move between the 3 groups
  • 1000: The whole year group will move into the gym, seated to ensure social distancing
  • 1000 – 1100: Primary 7 Leavers’ Assembly.  The presentations and photographs will be posted on Google Classrooms after the event for families
  • 1100:   Children to wash hands before and after
  • 1115: Classroom Activities.  During this time children will be able to take home items they may left in their tray. The children will not be allowed to sign shirts. The children will also participate in an activity so should bring their own pencil case, pens, pencils and school bag if possible.  The school will provide materials where required.
  • 1200: Send off from playground.  Children will then leave from the Infant Gate so that we can ensure social distancing
  • We kindly ask that parents and carers, who may wish to come to pick up their child, remain out with the school gates and that social distancing rules are adhered to, giving particular consideration to gate area itself.

As I hope you can see, the wellbeing of our children has been at the forefront of my mind in the planning of these events and I thank you for your patience in getting the information to you.  Should you have any questions regarding the information provided please do not hesitate to contact the school where we are always happy to help.

Yours faithfully,
