Curriculum

REALISING THE AMBITION:

Realising the Ambition: Being Me, builds upon the original principles and philosophy of Pre-Birth to 3 and Building the Ambition. The new guidance retains the relevant content from the previous guidance which it replaces, extending and strengthening it in line with current research and evidence about how children develop and learn. This refreshed early years national practice guidance for Scotland presents key information about the characteristics of child development based on research and evidence. It explores the range of interactionsexperiences and spaces we need to provide for babies and young children to help them learn and grow best from their earliest days through to being a young child in early primary school.

In essence, ‘Realising the Ambition: Being Me’ increases expectations of high quality but still provides the necessary support for all who work in the early years sector and beyond.

CURRICULUM FOR EXCELLENCE:

Curriculum for Exellence

The Curriculum for Excellence puts the child at the centre of learning. The early level of Curriculum for Excellence is designed to meet the needs of most children from 3 years until the end of Primary 1, promoting continuity and progression of learning across the early learning and childcare and primary sectors. It promotes the importance of:

  • active, experiential learning
  • a holistic approach to learning
  • smooth transitions, and
  • learning through play

The aim of our centre is to ensure that every child experiences a broad education that develops skills for learning, for life, and work with a real focus on literacy and numeracy and promotes an active and healthy lifestyle.

SKILLS FOR LEARNING, LIFE AND WORK

At Ferguslie Early Learning & Childcare Centre our children have a natural curiosity about the world around them. Through a variety of play contexts our children understand the different jobs people do within the world of work. They engage in projects that develops a depth of learning and to scaffold this we connect to and work with local businesses and professions. We value the uniqueness of each child connected to our centre within an environment where they develop their skills to make choices, know the decisions they make during their play are valued and can understand what success feels like as their achievements are celebrated. Passionate educators support the family to nurture this natural curiosity and through working together give our children the skills to be all they can be and the desire to be even more.
