We at Cochrane Castle understand that at times, pupils will need additional support to help them with their learning. We pride ourselves on an ethos where every child is supported to succeed and this support can take many forms. While this is always most valuable in their own classroom, sometimes pupils can benefit from time in one of our breakout areas to help regulate before returning to their own classroom.
Sensory Learning Room (Sensory Circuits)
At Cochrane Castle Primary School, sensory circuits are used to help children feel calm, ready to learn, and build positive relationships. These short, structured movement activities support children to manage their emotions and energy levels, encouraging cooperation, turn-taking, and respectful behaviour in a safe and supportive environment.

Nurture
Some children receive additional nurture support (over and above their in-class nurture) and this is carried out in our spare classroom by Miss Cunningham. Here, children work on their social and emotional communication skills as well as learning additional regulation strategies.

The Nest and The Quiet Room
We also provide Wellbeing and Nurture Spaces – calm, welcoming areas pupils can use when they feel stressed, overwhelmed, emotional, or simply need time to reflect. These spaces help pupils’ self‑regulate and return to learning ready to engage positively.
