Additional Support Needs (ASN) Philosophy
At Cochrane Castle Primary, we believe every child is unique and deserves support that recognises their individual strengths, interests and needs. We aim to ensure all learners feel valued, supported and able to take part fully in school life.
Our work is guided by national policy and legislation, including the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004, How Good Is Our School? (Fourth Edition) and the Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach. These highlight the importance of identifying needs early, working closely with families and providing the right support so every child can achieve their potential.
We recognise that children learn in different ways and may need different types of support. For this reason, we use a flexible “toolbox” of approaches, including adapted learning in class, targeted support, visual aids, assistive technology and nurture-informed practice.
Working in partnership with families is central to our approach. By working together with parents, carers and other professionals, we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive school where every child feels they belong and can thrive.
