Children in Need Swap Shop 14th November

Swap Shop

Bring toys and books galore,

but you can also bring so much more!

Nothing that you have just bought,

but never bring anything broken to our swap shop.

On the 14th November come to P6a,

Bring your things and your 50p pay,

Pay 50p to swap your things and get something new,

And all the  money we get from you,

Goes to the charity of Pudsey bear,

For Children in Need there is not a penny to spare!

Next week we will be raising money for Children in Need with lots of activities for pupils to take part in.

P1-3 Activities

There will be a colouring competition which the children can take part in for 20p a go. Decorate your Pudsey for Children in Need and hand it in to your teacher by Friday 16th November. The winning entry will win a  beautiful knitted Pudsey which has been donated by a member of staff.

P4-7 Activities

On Thursday the 15th of November the upper school will have the opportunity to visit a bake sale run and donated by Primary 6. Cakes will be priced from 20p-50p.

Whole School Activities

Throughout the week children will have the opportunity to guess Blush the bears birthday for 20p a go. If you guess Blush’s birthday correctly or the closest guess will receive a knitted Blush, also donated by a member of staff.

On Wednesday 14th November, pupils will have the opportunity to come to our Swap Shop to swap their old toys, books and DVDs. Each swap will cost 50p. Please bring in any re-useable toys, books and DVDs on Monday and Tuesday to P6a in order for us to organise our Swap Shop.

To finish off our week of fundraising pupils are asked to Wear their Spots! On Friday the 16th we will be supporting Pudsey and Children in Need by wearing something spotty for a suggested donation of £1.

Scottish Sun Big Cats Books for Schools

Dear All,

Just a reminder that we are coming to the end of the opportunity to collect tokens from the Scottish Sun to receive Big Cats books for the school.

Thank you very much to those of you who have been gathering the tokens but we are still quite a bit away from our target of 3500.  The Sun will stop printing the tokens on the 18th November and I have to return them before the 3rd December.

Please, please ask all your friends and family to collect these very worthwhile tokens.  Our children really enjoy these wonderful books and we would love to receive the £550 worth.

Thanking you in advance.

Event cancelled – Paisley Fireworks Spectacular

A message from Renfrewshire Council

We are really sorry to let you know that we are cancelling Saturday’s Fireworks event in Paisley. This is due to severe wind gusts and rain forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the weekend, which make it impossible for us to deliver the event safely.

We have been monitoring the situation closely and have taken the advice from our display contractor, health and safety and the event advisory group. Paisley Fireworks is one of the highlights of our event year and we know lots of people will be very disappointed.

We want to give local people and all of our supporters as much time as possible to change their plans and we hope to see everyone back in Paisley on Saturday the 17th for our fabulous Christmas Light Switch On. Please take care if you are out and about this weekend.

Soccer Sevens

Today Bishopton Primary took two teams to Ferguslie as part of the Soccer Sevens qualifiers.

Team Blue competed in the P7 event and narrowly missed out on the play offs after some hard fought games.

Team Red competed in the P6 event and made the play-offs but sadly just missed out at the final hurdle against All Saints Primary.

Thank you to all of the spectators who came to cheer us on and to Bargarran Primary who we once again travelled with (and drew 0-0 with again!!!)

Final Literacy Cafe

Just a wee reminder that the last Literacy Cafe for Primary 1 & 2 pupils will open from 5.15 – 6.30pm, tomorrow 29th October 2018.

Feel free to come along in your Halloween costume – kids too!

At the café children and their parent/carer will have fun reading together  and enjoy a snack provided by us.

If you would like to attend, please contact the school office or email the school at

email: bishoptonenquiries@renfrewshire.gov.uk

for your name to be added to the attendance list and let us know of special dietary requirements.

STEM Week Skype Assembly

Today we had the FIRST EVER Bishopton Primary School Skype Assembly. Pupils from each class came up to the gymhall and told us a little bit about what they have been up to throughout the week. This was played back live to each of the classrooms.

It was a fantastic experience and something we hope to do again in the future.

Well done for all your hard work during STEM Week. We definitely have future STEM practitioners in our ranks!

World Teachers Day

On #WorldTeachersDay Mrs McNaught would like to say a huge thank you to all the fantastic staff @BishoptonPS for all of the wonderful learning experiences they provide for our pupils. It is not even the end of term 1 and we have already taken part in some fabulous activities including Maths Week Scotland, European day of Languages and our STEM week.  Thank you also to our support staff, community partners and parents who have supported the learning this term.

STEM Week 2018

STEM Week 2018 kicked off with the world of work visiting Bishopton Primary School.
We were joined by Ally, Alex Joannides, Lucy Joannides, Suzanne Lee, Jennifer Jensen, Iain McDade, Matthew Cochrane, Colin, Martin Banks, Eleanor Rathod and Etienne Rathod.

Their expertise taught us all about the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and they provided fantastic role models for our pupils. They were even able to answer some of our very tricky questions.

It certainly made us think about future careers in some jobs that may not even exist yet!
Keep an eye on the class blogs to see some pictures of today’s events and what we get up to throughout the rest of the week.

A massive thank you to all the companies and businesses who helped this afternoon to take place.

European Day of Languages

Well done everyone for another successful languages day.  P 1-3 designed t-shirts about France and all things French.  Well done to our t-shirts winners (photos to follow).  P4 -7 made a presentation in the form of a poster or powerpoint on the advantages of knowing more than one language.

Thank you to our mum and dad speakers and Craig our ex-pupil for their input.

If your child was one of the t-shirt winners, these are the care instructions – iron fix on the back for at least 4 mins and wash separately in cold water for first 3 washes.

Here are some of the Eagles hard at work.  More photos to follow.
