World Thinking Day – Friday 22nd February
Every year, on the 22nd of February, the Girl Guides and Scouts celebrate World Thinking Day. Bishopton Primary School are once again delighted to support this. Any pupil who is a member of one of these organisations is welcome to wear their appropriate uniform on this day.
Scottish Assemblies
Thursday saw two very successful Scottish Poetry Assemblies. As always, our children did us proud with their confident and expressive recitals. The judges had a very difficult job deciding on the winners.
The P1-3 trophy went to Isla of P3W who recited The Skipping Sang by J K Annand.
The P4-5 winner was Layla with her performance of The Red Balloon by an anonymous author.
For P6-7 Mia gave an excellent performance of Robert Burns’ Wullie Whastle.
Very well done to all of our finalists and a special well done to the three winners.
The upper school were entertained by Eilidh, Evie, Chloe and Hollie from P7 dancing the Highland fling, as well as Kirsty, Eleanor and Ellie from P6. Rachel and Eilidh from P7 sang Loch Lomond beautifully and we mustn’t forget our ICT technicians Owen and Lewis for their expert help too.
This was a wonderful way to reflect and complete our Scottish month in school. Each year January is busy, with the classes looking at our heritage, our traditions, our culture and much more. They take part enthusiastically and with great enjoyment. Many thanks to the teachers for their hard work behind the scenes.
We must also extend warm thanks to Ms Grant and Mrs Joannides of the Parent Council for judging the infant performances and to Mr Bradford, Mr Wilson and Mr McNellis for their expert decisions with the upper school.
Our Infant winner Isla showing off her well earned trophy.
Our upper school finalists, our two winners and our entertainers and ICT Technicians.

Burns Assembly 7th February 2019
As you know we have been working very hard on our Scots and Burns poems. This year there is a slight change to our arrangements. We are having a P1-3 Assembly on Thursday 7th February where our winners will recite their poems to the infant department and a panel of judges from the Parent Council. Each of our winners will receive a certificate and the lucky winner from P1- 3 will be awarded a trophy to hold for a year.
The upper school will have a similar event with 3 judges from the Burns Federation. There will be 2 trophies, one for the overall winner from P4&5 and one from P6&7 and of course, certificates for all class winners. We will also be entertained with singing and dancing. We are very lucky to have such talented children.
The following Wednesday at school assemblies the infant winner will recite their winning poem to the upper school assembly and vice versa.
We would invite the children to wear something tartan on Thursday 7th, if they have it, to help us celebrate Burns Day. This could be a tie, a hairband, a blouse, a skirt, anything tartan. It is not a non-uniform day but if you have the full regalia we would love to see it!
We are all looking forward to the performances and pictures will be posted on the school blog next week.
Thank you once again for your support.

House Art Day – Ospreys – Thursday 29th November
Calling all Ospreys! For our House Art Day this year (Thursday 29th November) we will be creating our usual themed display which will be on show within the school. For our individual Christmas craft we are looking for resources. Please see below for items we would like you to bring in, if possible.
P1-3 – newspapers
P4-7 – cereal boxes
This will be a non-uniform day. Please remember that our activities may get messy so please do not wear your good clothes.
European Day of Languages
Well done everyone for another successful languages day. P 1-3 designed t-shirts about France and all things French. Well done to our t-shirts winners (photos to follow). P4 -7 made a presentation in the form of a poster or powerpoint on the advantages of knowing more than one language.
Thank you to our mum and dad speakers and Craig our ex-pupil for their input.
If your child was one of the t-shirt winners, these are the care instructions – iron fix on the back for at least 4 mins and wash separately in cold water for first 3 washes.
Here are some of the Eagles hard at work. More photos to follow.

Sports Day Update
Weather permitting, Sports Day will go ahead as planned tomorrow, Tuesday 23rd May. If we have to cancel due to weather conditions, we will inform you by text and Blog post in the morning.
Lunchtime Arrangements
Before lunchtime, all pupils will be taken back to class to register and collect their packed lunches, etc. If we have received the signed permission slip to allow them out of school during lunchtime, P4-7 pupils will be sent to the office to be collected. P1-3 pupils with permission slips will be able to be collected from the Dining Hall Fire Exit (at the greenhouse). Pupils who are not being collected by their parents will be escorted to the field by their teachers.
We hope you have a lovely picnic experience on the field. We ask that you encourage your child to stay away from any equipment that has been set up for the sports activities.
Remember to dress in your House colours to show some team spirit. Eagles – yellow, Hawks – green, Falcons – blue, Ospreys – red. Please wear or bring sun cream even if it looks cloudy, because we will be outside all day. Also, please wear a hoodie or waterproof jacket, just in case!
Thank you!
