On behalf of all of the staff in Bishopton Primary School, wishing all our families a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
We look forward to seeing everyone back in school at 9.00 a.m. on Monday 6th January 2020.
Good morning. We have received information on a few occasions this week regarding issues with traffic flow through the village.
The main problems are arising from cars parked too close to the junction of Old Greenock Road and Ferry Road. This makes it very difficult for larger vehicles and the school buses in particular to turn.
On two mornings this week the bus has become ‘stuck’ when trying to turn and the traffic on the surrounding roads has become gridlocked. The situation was only resolved when the parked car was moved.
We fully appreciate that parking is difficult during peak periods but please be mindful of others and only park in places that are unlikely to cause problems for other road users.
A number of parents have signed up to the Parking Pledge and we are grateful of your support in this.
Following discussions at the recent parent council meeting regarding homework, we are surveying the views of the wider parent body.
Clicking on the link below will give you access to the survey. The link to the survey will be available until the 21st October.
We hope you take some time to complete this survey as your views are important to us.
Please note the dates have now been confirmed for the additional in-service days and the movement of the May Day holiday.
The first additional in-service day will be Wednesday 12th February 2020.
The May Day holiday has been moved from Monday 4th to Friday 8th May. Subsequently, the May in-service day on the 1st May and the additional day on the 30th April, have been moved to the 6th and 7th May.
On behalf of the staff I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a great summer. We hope the weather is kind and everyone has the opportunity to recharge their batteries.
Thank you for the support you have shown us throughout the session. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for new session on Thursday 15th August at 9.00 a.m.

Pupils and staff put in a lot of effort to select pieces that demonstrate the learning taking place throughout the year. Please provide them with some feedback on the profile.
If you have not received a copy, either by email or a paper copy, by Friday 21st June please let us know.
We hope you enjoy sharing in your child’s learning journey.
Pupils from P3 W have traveled through to Ingliston Showground to set up their garden for the Gardening Scotland pallet competition. Their design was one of only 20 chosen for the final.
We wish them the best of luck with their design.
If you are visiting the show this weekend please stop by and see their wonderful garden.
Thank you to everyone who has been in touch thanking the staff for their efforts and hard work in putting together yesterday’s event. It was very much appreciated.
Our pupils all had a great day and there is much excitement whilst we wait for the scores to be totalled and the winning house announced at the next assembly.
Our pupils showed great sportsmanship and resilience despite the weather.
Here’s hoping the sun shines on us next year.
The weather forecast is not great for either Wednesday or Thursday this week. As Thursday appears to be worse than Wednesday, sports day will go ahead as best as possible tomorrow. Some alterations may need to be made during the day if the weather becomes very bad.
Please come prepared with waterproof clothing. The temperature also looks low so a jumper or sweatshirt may also be required.
If you are taking your child out of school at lunchtime they will be dismissed by their class teacher from the usual exit door, not from the school office.
Thank you to all who responded to our Parental Questionnaire during our parents evenings this week. For those of you who did not manage to complete a paper copy, an electronic version is available via the link below.
Please do not click on the link if you have already submitted your paper response.
If you would prefer a paper copy please contact the school office and one will be made available.
We value your feedback and look forward to receiving as many responses from as many sources as possible. Your responses will help us to plan and deliver the best possible service for the year ahead.
As we celebrate World Book Day we are delighted to launch our new Accelerated Reader resource. This resources is designed to increase reading engagement within the school and we have invested in a wide range of new book titles. The books were chosen by a group of our pupils based on information collected from their peers.
Below is a link to a booklet that explains the system in more detail. Look out for a physical copy in your child’s bag in the coming weeks.
Initially we will be starting with pupils in primaries 4-7. However as we become more familiar with the system and extend our range of books, pupils in the infant stages will also have access.
We hope that you will support your child in this by asking about the books they are reading and perhaps taking some time to discuss the books.
Every year, on the 22nd of February, the Girl Guides and Scouts celebrate World Thinking Day. Bishopton Primary School are once again delighted to support this. Any pupil who is a member of one of these organisations is welcome to wear their appropriate uniform on this day.

A message from Renfrewshire Council
We are really sorry to let you know that we are cancelling Saturday’s Fireworks event in Paisley. This is due to severe wind gusts and rain forecast for tomorrow and the rest of the weekend, which make it impossible for us to deliver the event safely.
We have been monitoring the situation closely and have taken the advice from our display contractor, health and safety and the event advisory group. Paisley Fireworks is one of the highlights of our event year and we know lots of people will be very disappointed.
We want to give local people and all of our supporters as much time as possible to change their plans and we hope to see everyone back in Paisley on Saturday the 17th for our fabulous Christmas Light Switch On. Please take care if you are out and about this weekend.
On #WorldTeachersDay Mrs McNaught would like to say a huge thank you to all the fantastic staff @BishoptonPS for all of the wonderful learning experiences they provide for our pupils. It is not even the end of term 1 and we have already taken part in some fabulous activities including Maths Week Scotland, European day of Languages and our STEM week. Thank you also to our support staff, community partners and parents who have supported the learning this term.
Just to let those who have signed up for the literacy cafe know that, due to Mr Collins being off ill, the cafe planned for today has had to be postponed. On his return Mr Collins will be in touch to arrange a new date for the final session. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.
