What it’s Like

This poem is written after an edited version of a poem by Rita Ann Higgins. Rita was born in Galway, Ireland, in 1955 and came from a family of 13 children. Life wasn’t easy and Rita left school when she was 14. She started writing aged 20 and has published numerous books and plays. This poem is about her early life.

We have talked about using poetry to share our own unique worlds and perspectives. Of talking about small details and about how this brings a sense of being seen, our own experiences being valid and important.

Given the chance, what would you share?
