The Bag

It comes home from a long day of school,
It gets dumped onto the floor by a child.
Still inside, a pencil case full of things,
lunchbox and hand sanitiser,
A mask and a BUNCH of HOMEWORK!

Her worries about school melt away as she sits down,
Looking at her heavy bag.
Little by little she forgets 6×8 is still waiting to be solved,
And ninjas,
All the chats with her friends.

But the thing she most wants to forget,
All the annoying songs that she has had in her head,
ALL DAY LONG!

She could smell the food being cooked from the kitchen as she did her BUNCH of HOMEWORK.
She wishes she had done her homework a different day.

Each day the pile grows and grows,
Some days heavier than others.
But the bag does not mind,
In fact, it does not say a peep.

But what she does not realise is how much her bag does for her.
But then again life goes on.

The pile of papers, thoughts, dreams and memories
Grows and grows,
In the coldest days in winter
To the hottest days in summer.
