When I was younger
I wanted to travel back in time
Back to the days when princesses stayed in castles
Not doing any work
Rapunzel didn’t go outside in the cold wind to get fresh air
She leaned out her window, embracing the sun
And danced around in her own safe space
Sleeping Beauty didn’t wake up at seven in the morning
She slept in
For days, weeks, months, years
But now I see that I wouldn’t want an arranged marriage,
Or brush my hair 24/7
Or be forced into the public’s eye of ‘Beautiful’
So I have another fantasy,
I want to be in the 1880’s
And be a certain 15 girl
Who has been through so much trauma
But she is still strong
And have so many opportunities at her fingertips
To have a thrilling life which is nothing but her and her dream
Hetty Feather
Hetty Feather, Sapphire Battersea, Emerald Star
So many identities
One person
She has so much power
But only if she used it in the right way.
For what she doesn’t realise
But knows deep down is right
She could make the world a better place for her gender
Help girls not be threatened to
‘Get a well-paying job’ instead of
‘Follow your dreams’ like Hetty did
Because so many people tell young girls that
So they don’t need to worry
About getting paid 87p instead of £1 and so many other issues
Hetty could solve that if she existed now
Hetty used her potential to look after her loved ones and get a job
She used her potential in the right way
But the wrong way
If she existed nowadays it would be different
I want to be Hetty Feather

I am in love with your poetry blog. I want to feature it on my own poetry blog! Here is my beast poem called, “Dreambeast.” You guys are inspiring!
Dreambeast
If you have a dream
That won’t go away
That gnaws at your toes
With each waking day
That sings beneath notes
And swirls between stars
From lines in great books
It thrashes and gnarls
From cinema screens
It leaps along light
And twists your insides
And stalks you at night
Then give it attention
Tame that wild dream
It’s there for a reason
Yet to be seen
A beast of the future
Only you own
Don’t let it escape
Into the unknown
Train it with care
And boost its esteem
Spotlight it brightly
So it can be seen
Or dreams can turn nasty
Tire and groan
Diminishing creatures
If left all alone
The beast never dies
Just shrinks and goes cold
A lone, solemn dream
Growing weary and old
So feed it with strength
Believe that it’s real
Nurture with love
And trust how it feels
Fight the dream-bruisers
Wish-batterers too
And splatterers of hope
Who’ll be waiting for you
Feel the roar rumble
Hear every shout
It’s your beast of a dream
Just dying to get out

Thank you so much Mark. This blog won’t be updated anymore as it is from my previous P7 class who are now in S1. They asked me to leave it live so they could look back at their poems. I’m in the process of creating a new blog for the new set of P7s. I’ll let you know when that is set up.
