BASC Visit P3

This week we were visited by BASC. They held 2 workshops for us which gave us the chance to look at local wildlife.

In workshop 1 we tasted a range of different foods that were locally sourced. This included tasting local produce like venison, nettle pesto and blackberry leather. Everyone tasted something new and had the chance to vote for their favourite.

In workshop 2 we looked at different animals in the local environment and how they can affect farming. We also held a variety of deer antler and found out how to identify different deer.

Here is what we thought:

Iona: I liked the tasting because you got to try new things.

Dionne: We got to feel deer antlers. I liked it because it felt weird.

Keiran: I liked when we tasted the blackberry leather because it had so much flavour and it was healthy!

Mackay: I enjoyed the antlers because at the bottom it felt bumpy and at the top it was smooth.

P3M Outdoor Learning

Primary 3 have been out in the local woods using the environment. We have been creating journey sticks that show the path we have taken in the woods. Each pair had a stick and we used pins to secure interesting things that we had found. We then described the journey we had taken by looking at our sticks and sharing our interesting items with others.

Back in the classroom we will be using these to create personal maps of where we were and the journey we took. We are looking forward to going back in to the woods to learn more about the local environment. img_1115 img_1122 img_1127 img_1129

P2/3 Visit Bluebell Woods

On Thursday 26 May, P2/3 went for a walk to Bluebell Woods to see the amazing display of beautiful bluebells.  We used our senses to explore the woods.  We closed our eyes to see what we could hear, we stopped and took a  big sniff to smell the wonderful aroma of the flowers.  We felt different objects with our hands and we saw what a beautiful place we live in.   We also discovered beasties and huge spider webs. Then each small group was given a part of “The Three Little Pigs” story to recreate using anything they could find on the floor of the woods.  The sun was shining, the birds were singing – what a lovely afternoon we had!

Sunny Seashore

Primary 3 have been taking advantage of the good weather and learning outside. We have been using chalk to draw the setting of ‘The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch’ as part of our topic. We created presentations about what we had drawn and shared these with the class.

Here is some of our artwork:

The Queen is 90!

On April 21st, P2/3 and P3, along with other schools in Perth and Kinross, came together at 3pm on the Queen’s Birthday and sang Happy Birthday to Her Majesty.  Then we were really clever and sang it in French as well.  We also talked about the role of the Queen and her big family and then made flags to cheer her on as we sang.   Here are couple of pictures.

On Thursday the 24th March parents were invited in to see our work on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Across the 3 classrooms there were lots of different examples of literacy work for example; sound poems using onomatopoeia, character descriptions, biographies, fact files along with The Invention Room and examples from French language. Thank you for coming and we hope you enjoyed looking at your child’s work.

Thursday 25th February

All P2/3 and P3 pupils were treated to a taster session from ‘Tayside Judo Club’. The children practised different types of holds and throws wearing the supplied Judo outfits. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and some children have joined the local club which takes place on a Wednesday from 4-6:5pm in the campus.
