Fireworks and Onomatopoeia

We have enjoyed learning about onomatopoeia and have been using line and pattern to create our own firework pictures. We were very enthusiastic to learn about firework safety and now know how to keep others safe.

Some interesting words we have learnt to describe the noise that fireworks make are: KABOOM, FIZZ and SWOOSH.

Weather

We have been learning about the weather in the UK and Wild Weather as well as how weather impacts on our everyday lives.

We will be taking on the role of weather forecasters to report on the national weather towards the end of term.

We have enjoyed learning how to record the weather in different ways and have done some art to help us learn about the water cycle. We now know that it is a continuous process.

We also had a design challenge to make some windmills. On our first attempt we had to build a windmill with no instructions. On our second attempt our teachers explained how to make it and then we had another shot.

Gobstopper Machines

To round off our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory topic we invented our own Gobstopper Machines. In cooperative groups we used our previous learning with different materials, as well as learning about friction, to develop a machine with a moving conveyor belt. To make the conveyor belt we used a loop of fabric, kebab sticks and elastic bands.

The boys and girls really enjoyed this group project and were really proud of what they had achieved.

Snow Day Fun

What can you do on a snow day?

Here are some ideas for what you can do on a Snow Day.

Build a snowman.

Baking – use the opportunity to keep warm in the kitchen and make some biscuits or cupcakes.

Snow animals – why make a snowman when you could make a caterpillar, or spider? Give your child the task of creating the most unusual animal with the snow

Paper snowflakes – this may seem like a rather festive craft, but paper snowflakes are very easy to make and your child can make dozens for a paper chain.

If you do any of these remember to take a picture to bring into school. 🙂

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Primary 2/3 and 3 have thoroughly enjoyed participating in our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory topic. We have been making models, designing our own Golden Tickets, making chocolates, creating chocolate room collages and much, much, more.

We have also enjoyed looking at the illustration in the book and have practiced making our own drawings of characters after watching a video of Quentin Blake drawing his hornswoggler.

You can watch the video by clicking the link below.

Healthy Eating

Primary 3 have really enjoyed learning about the different food groups and how to eat healthily. P3A and P3G spent some time working together to learn about the different food groups. Everyone worked very hard and enjoyed having the opportunity to learn about how much of each group is good for us.

Here are some pictures of P3 hard at work.

The Mystery of the Pink Box

P3 have been enjoying reading the book ‘The Smell That Got Away’ by Rosemary Hayes.

As part of our imaginative writing we have been trying to work out what is inside the pink box that is in the book.

We have had lots of imaginative ideas from Lego People to Puppies. We look forward to reading the rest of the book to find out what happens and especially what is in the box.

School Show Homework

P3 are so excited about the school show and have been rehearsing hard. So instead of spelling homework this week P3 are going to be practising the words for our two songs. We hope you have fun :).

Mrs Austin and Miss Middlemiss

Our first song is going to be Consider Yourself:

Consider yourself at home consider yourself one of the family.
We’ve taken to you so strong it’s clear we’re going to get along.
Consider yourself well in consider yourself part of the furniture.
There isn’t a lot to spare who cares? Whatever we’ve got we share X2

Our second song is Pick a Pocket or Two:

In this life one thing counts in the bank large amounts
I’m afraid these don’t grow on trees. You’ve got to pick a pocket or two.
you’ve got to pick a pocket or two boys, you’ve got to pick a pocket or two.
Large amounts don’t grow on trees you’ve got to pick a pocket or two.

Why should we break our backs stupidly paying tax.
Better get some untaxed income better pick a pocket or two.
You’ve got to pick a pocket or two boys, you’ve got to pick a pocket or two.
Why should we all break our backs better pick a pocket or two.

Robin Hood what a crook! Gave away what he took
charity’s fine , subscribe to mine get out and pick a pocket or two.
You’ve got to pick a pocket or two boys, you’ve got to pick a pocket or two.
Robin Hood was far too good, you’ve got to pick a pocket or two.

When I see someone rich both my thumbs start to itch.
Only to find some peace of mind I have to pick a pocket or two
you’ve got to pick a pocket or two boys, you’ve got to pick a pocket or two.
Just to find some peace of mind we have to pick a pocket or two.
