History Department – Rationale and Departmental Aims

The study of History gives pupils an insight into the society in which they live.  They discover their heritage as members of a community and become familiar with the political, social and technological forces that have shaped their world.

The study of History fosters a lifelong interest in the subject and can make a useful contribution to a wide range of careers.  These include careers which demand History as a necessary qualification and careers for which the subject is a useful part of the candidate’s range of qualifications.

The department’s aims can be well expressed in terms of a Curriculum for Excellence’s four capacities.
