  • Merry Christmas 2025

    Here are some photos of the Christmas events from this year We sang at the Christmas tree lighting, and P7s switched on the lights. We had Christmas lunch with the Lunch Club, and then sang for them in the Clubrooms afterwards. We had a couple of trips, with the Nursery children going to soft play and the Primary children meeting with the children from Rousay School for a session on the inflatables and to watch Paddington in Peru at the Pickaquoy Centre. The Nursery children have had fun printing their own wrapping paper.

  • Learning about Sound

    In Science this term the primary children have been learning about Sound. Here are some photos of what the children have been doing The children learned that you can see sound vibrations in action, using rice and musical instruments. The children learned how sound travels in waves. They experimented with seeing whether sound travels best through solids, liquids or gases. The children learned about pitch. Barbara Balcombe came in to teach the children about hearing loss and what can help people with hearing loss. The children looked at some different devices and learned some signs.

  • Trying French Food

    As part of our topic about France, we tried some French food. We had to ask for what we wanted in French, and then say whether we liked it or didn’t like it. We used “je voudrais” to ask for our food, and “j’aime” or “je n’aime pas” to say whether we liked it.

  • Eday Minecraft

    For a past 2 months children were working in a collaboration with Katy Firth from North Isles Landscape Partnership Scheme and Adam – The Wizard on recreating Eday in the Minecraft world.   • Children in Need 2024

    We did fun activities for Children in Need, and invited people in the community to donate their loose change. We also wore pyjamas to school. We made a really long change snake (133m!) and when we counted it up we had raised £323.41! What an amazing total!

  • Term 1 “Our Community”

    In the Autumn Term of 2024 the Primary Class topic was “Our Community”. We looked at what makes Shapinsay a great place to live, and what a community needs. We went on lots of visits, and had a lot of visitors in school. Here is just some of what we did! We went to the Smithy and learned about jobs there. We went to the Shapinsay shop and found out how it works. Liam McArthur MSP came to talk to us about the Scottish Parliament. We visited the Shapinsay kirk. We visited the Heritage Centre. We visited the Fire Station.

In the most recent update to Glow blogs we updated the version of Jetpack that we use. Jetpack no longer supports Additional CSS. This is no longer available from the customiser or in the Styles of the Site Editor. CSS already added to sites continues to function. Native WordPress support Additional CSS but not in […]

Glow Blogs October 2024 Update

Glow Blogs has just had a fairly large update. Glow Blogs is now using wordPress 6.6.2. This bring quite a lot of new features, especially to the Block & Site Editor. Quite a few plugins have been updated too.

H5P Issue Some content types cannot be installed

An issue with H5P content types has arisen. If you try to install some content types you will get an error. The problem seems to be because the H5P API has been updated but the version used by theWordPress plugin does not now match it.
