This term the Primary children are learning about weather, climate and energy. The Nursery children have been enjoying playing with farms, dinosaurs and babies. We enjoyed taking part in some activities through the Orkney Science Festival. P6 children enjoyed Outdoor Education in Kirkwall. The primary children have been swimming in Kirkwall each Friday. At Shapinsay School we have a strange tradition of soaking our leavers when they don’t expect it. This year was no exception, and our P7s and Caroline were surprised by everyone at the end of the day. Stromness Academy has had its first HMIe School Inspection in 14 years. This secondary school takes all its 350 pupils from eight of the parishes in the west mainland of Orkney. During the week 24th March 2025, HMIe came to Stromness and did a whole school inspection, from the Home Economics department to Music, talking to not only to staff but also to the students. The staff – teachers and non-teaching – had mixed feelings about this, one teacher saying they were “Super Stressed” and others stating “It was a useful and positive experience” or they were “not worried”. The PDF Issue that recently developed on Glow Blogs has now been fixed. PDFs can now be uploaded as expected without any workarounds. Thanks to all the people who reported it. Glow Blogs has been updated to WordPress 6.8.2. This update is mostly a behind the scenes one, you might not notice much difference.Fixed: PDF problem
An issue with pdf uploaded to Glow Blogs has recently developed. Our developers are looking at the issue to create a fix. The issue is that pdfs uploaded to Glow Blogs are ‘truncated’ to one page.
