Maths: Subtraction โœ๏ธย

Warm up task:ย  Doubles

Practise your skill of doubling on Hit the Button:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button

Try out different levels on the Number range or try Multiplesย of 10/ 5/ 50.

Main Activity – Subtracting 2-digit number from a 2-digit numberโœ๏ธย

  • I can count back accurately
  • I can subtract my tens then my units accurately

Read each sum carefully. Think about what it is asking you to do and write out your sum in your jotter. Count back in Tens first then subtract the units. Look out for number clues to help you! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Rememberย we can use a variety of vocabulary for subtraction: takeaway, subtract, find the difference, difference between etc.

For example:

1a.ย  64 – 23 = 41

2a.ย  55 – 34 = 21

3a.ย  78m – 33m = 45m (metres)

4a.ย  longest – Peter 85mย  ย  ย shortest – Brutus 33m

85m – 33m = 52m

5.a.ย  57 – ? = 32

Use your answer as your number clue (32) and use inverse operation (addition instead of subtraction) and count on to 57 = 25

If you can manage this mentally then that is brilliant. You can use also use your 100-square to help you.

Check over your answers and traffic-light your work. ๐Ÿšฆ
