28.05.20 Home Learning ๐ŸŒŸ

Good morning boys and girls.

I hope you are all ok and managing to stay safe. Were you lucky enough to be allowed to stay up late and watch the live rocket launch? Sadly, itโ€™s been rescheduled to Saturday due to the weather but at least itโ€™s at an earlier time. ๐Ÿš€

Have you been managing to get out for a walk? Stephen and I tried a new walking route yesterday, along past the fields and woods. It was great – we even saw a squirrel and some horses! ๐Ÿฟ

How are you feeling today? Why not ‘Take a Moment’ with Mrs McMillan to practise some breathing/ relaxation techniques. Here is a fun way to practise your deep breathing. ๐Ÿ˜ƒย

Here are todayโ€™s lessons:

Thursday 28th May

Literacy: Spelling and Grammar

Warm up Task: Sumdog Spellingโœ๏ธ

  • I can order letters in my spelling words accurately

Take part in at least 20 minutes of your Sumdog Spelling words game dated 28.5.20.

I will give 50/ 100/ 200 points for good accuracy and time played. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Main Activity โ€“ Subjects and Verbsโœ๏ธ

  • I can identify the subject in a sentence.
  • I can identify the verb in a sentence.

Write your Date, Title and I can neatly into your jotter. Read the text ‘Subject and verbs’ twice carefully.

Every sentence has a verb. Every sentence also has a subject. This is the main person or thing. The verb tells us what the person or thing did.

Scott saw an elf.

Scott – subject (main person)

saw – verb (what Scott did)

Copy the sentences from the text, You must underline the subject (main person or thing) and circle the verb (what it did) in each sentence. The first one has been done for you.

Read and check over your work. ๐Ÿ”

Finisher: READING – Read a book of your choice on Epic Books. There are so many exciting books to choose from!

Login > Students >Enter Class Code pmj9348 > Click on your avatar

When you search for a book that you like, click on the front cover to open it. Then click on the screen to open and read the first page. If there are too many tricky words, it’s not the best book for you. If there are just a few tricky words then this is a perfect read.

Maths: Multiplication๐Ÿ’™

So far we have covered the 2, 10, 5, 3 and 4 times tables. We are extending our learning to 2-digit multiplication.

  • I can build up my times tables
  • I can use repeated addition to work out table facts (counting on in 2โ€™s, 3โ€™s and 4โ€™s)

Warm up task:ย  2, 3 and 4 times tables๐Ÿ’™

Practise counting out loud in steps of 2โ€™s, 3โ€™s and 4โ€™s for your times tables. You could shout it out in: a loud voice, a quiet whispering voice, a squeaky voice, a robot voice or a funny voice.

0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24.

0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36.

0, 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48.

Or you can practise your times tables on Super Movers:

Main Activity – Multiplication: 2-digit number by 2, 3 and 4.

  • I can count on and back in 2’s, 3’s and 4’s accurately.
  • I can recall my times tables facts for 2, 3 and 4.

Read each question carefully. Think about what it is asking you to do. One strategy to use is to multiply the units then the tens and add them together. Another strategy is to write out as a formal sum just like we practised on whiteboards. Make links here with how we would calculate formal addition and subtraction chimney sums. Start by multiplying the units then tens.

Remember to show your answer with p for pence as we are working out the cost.

You can choose which way works best for you.

Here is an example:

1a. 2 x 21p = 42p

(You can start with the units. 2 x 1 = 2

then work out the tens, 2 x 20 = 40

add your answers together 40 + 2 = 42p)

or you can write out your sums formal using the ‘chimney sum’ method just like we practised on whiteboards.

  1. Write out your sum with neat column layout.

2. Multiply your bottom number (2) by the Units. Record your answer under the Units column.

3. Multiply your bottom number (2) by the Tens. Record your answer under then Tens column.

Please use whicheverย  way works best for you.

Remember you can also use your number tracks or 100-square to help you too.

Check over your answers and traffic-light your work.

Fun Finisher – Sumdog Activity

Take part inย at least 20 minutes of Maths games today.

I will reward you with 50/ 100/ 200 coins for your daily activity. ๐ŸŒŸ

Reminder: Blair Drummond Safari Park

You’re in for a real treat TODAY as Shonagh from BDSP will go LIVE at 12 on Facebook from the habitat of the RHINOS!
