P7 Leaver’s Hoodies

Following several enquiries regarding the primary 7s leavers hoodies, I thought it would be useful to clarify the schools position. Earlier in the year, following discussion, the Parent Council made the decision that they would not be organising primary 7 leavers hoodies. This was due to affordability and concerns over data protection and the significant amount of money still outstanding for the Kilbowie residential trip.

The leaver’s hoodies currently being discussed on Facebook have not been organised through the school and all parents have been advised that these should not be worn in school or on school events, this includes all school trips and primary 7 leavers events.

In order to include children’s names on a hooded top, written permission must be given by all parents. Several parents have informed us that they have not given permission for their children’s names to appear on the hoodies and this breaks data protection laws. In addition to this, recent advice given to all North Lanarkshire schools states that hoodies for children under the age of fourteen must not have a cord due to safety concerns and all schools must strictly adhere to this legislation.

Therefore, in order to adhere to data protection laws and ensure the safety of all children, no hoodies will be worn in school or at school organised events.

Thanks for your cooperation and support in this matter.
