Going for Gold

Parents, carers and families are by far the most important influences on children’s lives. Parents who take on a supportive role in their children’s learning make a difference in improving achievement and behaviour.” Parental Involvement Act 2006

As part of our on-going commitment to promoting positive behaviour we are continuing with our Going for Gold initiative within the school. The main focus will be to encourage the children to “keep the golden rules” which are:

  • Do be gentle                              Do be kind and helpful                         Do be honest
  • Do look after property          Do work hard                                           Do listen to others

Children will be encouraged to work towards a specified target of keeping all of their Golden Time each week. At the end of June those children who have met that target will receive a fantastic reward. This year we had bouncy castles, a theatre company, birds of prey display, arts and crafts activities, hair spray, beauty treatments and face painting. The Golden Day was a great success and enjoyed by all children.  This year, each term we hope to reward children who do not lose any Golden Time at all.  This may be a DVD or sports activity or other fun activity.

You will be notified when your child achieves bronze and silver awards throughout the year. Your and your child will be made aware on a weekly basis if they have lost any Golden Time.

Inappropriate Behaviour

If your child loses 15 minutes of their Golden Time within a week, you will be notified by letter. If the inappropriate behaviour continues then your child will be referred to one of the Principal Teachers who will discuss your child’s behaviour with him/her. The Principal Teachers will work with the following stages:

P1-3 Mrs Fleck         P4/5 Mrs Ferrie           P6/7 Mrs Grant

If a child continues to show little improvement in their behaviour after working with a PT then parents will be invited into a meeting with Mr Clark or Mrs Queen to discuss further options in addressing the behaviour. Mrs Bryson will work with children who are struggling to modify their behaviour over a longer period of time.

We also operate a respect policy within the school. All members of our school community are encouraged to show respect for each other. Children in breach of this will be issued with a zero tolerance letter from the Head Teacher.

Throughout the process the main emphasis will always be on encouraging children to make the right choices and giving the child opportunities to achieve success.

If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school where a member of the management team will be happy to chat to you.

Tannochside Primary – A school of Respect

At Tannochside Primary, we encourage the children to be respectful to one another and the adults that work with them.  All children are reminded of the importance of showing respect at all times and are rewarded when they do so.  They also understand that their are consequences to being direspectful.  This helps Tannochside remain a friendly, positive environment for all!

Nursery Class News

Welcome to the new session in Tannochside Nursery Class.

We hope you all had a great summer.  It’s lovely to see all our returning children who are now in their pre-school year, looking so much older and wiser!

A huge welcome to all of our new starts who are currently settling into Nursery.  We look forward to working with them and their parents and carers over the next year.

Welcome to Mrs Baillie and Mrs Ogston who have joined us as temporary members of staff and I am sure that you will make them feel very welcome.

Due to the increase in our Nursery provision we have renamed the groups as follows:

Mrs Bell: Cherries

Miss Commins: Pineapples

Mrs Kelso: Strawberries

Mrs Weir: Apples

Mrs McFadden/Mrs McAree: Bananas

Mrs Ogston: Grapes

Mrs Bailey: Blueberries

We have also named the large room i.e the original nursery area The Butterfly Room and the new smaller room will be known as the Caterpillar Room.

New session times

To ensure that we deliver a quality service for all children, we have altered the session times to the following:

Morning session: 8.45am – 11.15am

Afternoon session: 12.45pm – 3.15pm

Collection procedures

The nursery operates very strict collection procedures for all children.   Please note the following:

  • Children should be dropped off at 8.45am or 12.45pm each day
  • The main door will closed about 8.55am and 12.55pm to allow staff to work with the children at welcome time
  • If you arrive later than this you will be asked to remain in the foyer until 9.10am/1.10pm approx
  • At the end of the session children should be collected at 11.15am and 3.15pm.
  • We would kindly ask that all parents/carers remain in the foyer area or outside the building until a member of staff opens the cloakroom door. (11.05 and 3.05)
  • Parents/carers can no longer have free access to the cloakroom area, as children will be using this space as part of their play experience.
  • Any schoolchildren should remain in the cloakroom while adults are collecting younger children from the playroom.
  • To enhance security within the nursery you will be asked to provide a password to staff which anyone collecting your child will require.
  • Only people over 16 are permitted to collect a child from Nursery.
  • Please be reassured that these procedures are for the safety of your child and we would greatly appreciate your support. If you require an arrangement outwith these times please speak to your child’s key worker and we will try to accommodate your request.

Absence from the nursery

If your child is absent from the nursery please telephone the school office on the first day and leave a message for the nursery staff. If your child has sickness or diarrhoea, please do not send him/her to nursery for 48hrs after the sickness/diarrhoea has stopped.  This is in line with NHS Lanarkshire guidelines.

Birthdays

In line with our Health Promoting Nursery policy we would ask that parents do not send in birthday cakes or treats for children. All children will receive a card and celebrate their birthday with their own group.

Nursery Fund

A little reminder that nursery fund money, which is a voluntary contribution (£2) is collected on a weekly basis.  This money pays for all snack items, celebrations such as Christmas parties, Christmas and end of year gifts for the children as well as many other treats for the children.

We look forward to another happy, successful and hard working year and as ever if you have any suggestions or comments please speak to any member of staff who will be happy to deal with any query you may have.

Our Wonderful Work on Display

North Lanarkshire has a dedicated Literacy Base where teachers can go for the latest training on reading, writing and spelling.  Our school was invited to create a wall display at the Base for teachers to get ideas and inspiration and to see the excellent work of our school.

Primary 5-7’s writing work was used to create an excellent display!  We will be the toast of North Lanarkshire.

Primary 7 Leavers’ Beach Party

The annual P7 Leavers’ Party took place this evening.  The theme was a beach party and the children really dressed the part.  The partied to the excellent DJ, enjoyed the chocolate fountain, ice-cream station and lots and lots of sweet treats!

Thank you to all of the teachers, parents and friends of the school who helped out – and extra special thanks to all of the parents who came to set up the hall and sent in items for the party.

Check out all of the fun below (and remember to leave a comment!)
