Hallowe’en Disco
A huge thanks to our Parent’s Council for running and organising the Hallowe’en discos last night. The children had a wondeful time and everyone made such an effort with their costumes – there was some really spooky outfits!
Glow Meet at Tannochside Nursery
On Tuesday 4th October, some of our Nursery children were featured in a Glow Meet broadcast for Education Scotland. A Glow Meet is a video conference inside the Glow website that other schools and nurseries can log into and watch on their computer screen. The viewers can also send questions and responses online.
This Glow Meet was to launch a resource for young children called “A Right Wee Blether“. This was launched by Scotland’s Commissioner for Children and Young People, Tam Baillie. You can find out more about him and his work on his website here.

WW2 – War Preparations
P7a have enjoyed learning about the various war preparations introduced during WW2 to protect the population. We now know that everyone (even some animals) were issued with gas masks, we were lucky enough to have some real ones from WW2 and so decided to make some ourselves. We worked co-operatively to produce these and our Anderson shelters to reinforce what we had learned through our Social Studies. Mrs Fullerton was very impressed with our efforts and thinks that we are all successful learners!
Certificate Winners – 14th October 2011
Here are all the certificate winners from P1-7! They won Principal Teachers awards and Truly terrific work awards. Well done everyone!
Fire Safety Visit
Two local Fire fighters came along to assembly last week to talk to the children about fire safety in preparation for Bonfire Night. They spoke about what to wear to keep safe and advised us to attend professional, organised fireworks displays. They had a very entertaining presentation involving some of the pupils dressing up as fire fighters. Our two work experience students also demonstrated Stop-Drop-Roll techniques dressed in fire fighter’s uniforms.
Anderson Shelter Models
Primary 7 have been creating Anderson Shelters as part of their World War 2 topic. They were set the task of creating a model which showed what a shelter was like inside and out using a limited number of resources. They certainly rose to the challenge:

Welcome Back
We hope you enjoyed the October holiday. It’s lovely to see all of the children back at school and ready for a term of hard work and interesting learning.
As you will already know, Mrs. Denney has taken up a temporary post of acting Head Teacher at Kilsyth Primary. We are delighted that Mrs Ferrie has been able to take on the role of acting Deputy Head in Mrs Denney’s absence.
Parent’s evening is fast approaching – it is on 3rd November 2011. If you have not returned your appointment slip yet, please do so immediately to get the time that you want.. We will try our hardest to give everyone a time that suits and we will make sure that family appointments are placed together. Don’t forget that the book fair will be in the school hall during the evening – please support us by buying a book – we receive 60p for every £1 spent.
Our Parent Council Hallowe’en disco will take place this Thursday. It’s not too late to buy tickets!
