Not long to go now…

We had a question and answer session today to allow the Primary 7 pupils who are going to Kilbowie a chance to ask any questions they have about their week away. I think the children are really excited now!

If any parents have last minute questions about the trip, they can call the school office or email enquiries@tannochside.n-lanark.sch.uk

Philippines Typhoon Appeal

In order to support the millions of people who have been affected by the Typhoon in the Philippines, we would like to support the Philippines Typhoon Appeal.

We have decided to have a Onesie/Pajama day at school on Friday 29th November 2013.  For just £1, the children can come dressed in their onesie or pajamas to show their support to this important issue.  It’s also fine for the children to come in their casual clothes if they would prefer.

Please remember that this will be a normal school day, so the children will be going out to play at intervals.  If the weather is cold, it would be a good idea to wear something warm under their pajamas and consider what  they will wear outside.

You can find out more about the Philippine Typhoon Appeal and how the money they raise is being used at www.dec.org.uk

Considerate Car Parking

A number of visitors to our school require the use of the Disabled parking spaces at the bottom of the car park. We politely ask any drivers who do not hold a Blue Badge to use another area of the car park. This is particularly important at the end of the school day.

We also ask that those drivers who do hold a Blue Badge to display it prominently when parked in one of our marked bays.

Thank you for your consideration.

Bronze Awards

The majority of our pupils have earned their Bronze Award on the first week it was available which is a great achievement. We had a special fun afternoon today as a surprise for those children who have not lost any Golden time at all this year. All of the teachers planned fun activities such as dancing, painting, sport, pampering and lots more to say well done to the pupils for their excellent behaviour.

The certificates will be sent home soon – once the children have had an opportunity to show them off at assembly on Monday.

Kilbowie Final Arrangements

Kilbowie Final Arrangments

With less than two weeks until we leave for Kilbowie, I am writing to remind you of some information about the excursion.

Staff

Four members of staff will accompany the children to Kilbowie – Miss Grenfell, Mrs. Kearney, Miss Brogan and myself.

Payment

If you have not yet completed payment, the balance is due before we leave.  Please contact Mrs. Prentice or myself to discuss any issues regarding payment.

Spending Money

Tuck Shop money has been included in the total payment.  The children do not need to bring any money at all as there will be no opportunities for them to visit shops during the week.

Electrical Items

Please remember that no electrical items should be brought to Kilbowie by pupils.  This includes items which would not require charging e.g. Kindles.

Medicines

We are only able to administer prescription medication if you have completed a medical form for your child.  If their medicine has changed since completing the form, please request a new form via the office.  If your child requires a travel sickness pill, this should be taken before leaving the house on the Monday and a medical form will be required for one to be taken for the journey home.  Some children who have experienced travel sickness in previous years have used Anti-sickness bands which are available from pharmacies.

Medicines should be given to the teachers in the hall on Monday morning and must be in their original packaging with the child’s name clearly labelled.

Calpol

We will be able to administer Calpol for minor headaches etc. if you complete a permission slip on the morning of departure.  These will be available in the main hall.

Departure

The children should arrive via the main door and place their luggage in the Community Room before proceeding to the Gym Hall to register.  You may accompany and wait with them at this time.  As soon as the bus has arrived, I will announce arrangements for stowing luggage etc.  We aim to depart between 9.00am and 9.15am.  Breakfast club is available for the pupils as normal – however we ask that they register first if they are partaking in breakfast club.  The children require a light snack for the rest stop during the journey. Food is not permitted during the journey, but water is allowed.  Upon arrival at Kilbowie, the children will be given lunch.

Arriving back on Friday

I will telephone the school when we depart Kilbowie (usually around 11am) and will phone again as we get on to the M80 (around 45 minutes before we arrive back).  The school will inform you of our progress via text message alert.  In previous years, we have arrived back around 2pm, but this can vary depending on traffic etc.

Keeping in Touch

You should not expect to hear from us directly, however will be using the school blog to keep you up-to-date with what we are doing.  You will be able to access it at www.tannochside.n-lanark.sch.uk – click on Kilbowie Blog.

Other reminders

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me via the school office or email me on enquiries@tannochside.n-lanark.sch.uk.

Kilbowie Kit List

It’s not long now until we leave for Kilbowie – all of the Primary 7s who are going seem really excited about the excursion.  You will probably be thinking about packing your cases or bags.  Remember that the pupils need to be able to carry them up the stairs at Kilbowie by themselves, so don’t over pack!  Putting a few bin bags in the case is a good idea as these can be used for dirty washing to come back in.

Please remember that there a few items that should not be brought to Kilbowie:

  • electrical items such as hairdryers or straighteners
  • mobile telephones
  • entertainment devices such as book readers, tablets, mp3 players etc.
  • glass bottles/jars
  • aerosol sprays.

If you need a new copy of the kit list, click here to download it.

Christmas Lights Switch on

Christmas Lights Switch On 2013

Join Santa for a Christmas sing-along in a town centre near you

Christmas Tree

This November TCA are delighted to bring you the Christmas Lights Switch On along with a very special guest. The Christmas lights are being switched on across North Lanarkshire throughout November to bring festive cheer to the town centres during the Christmas shopping period.

This year Santa will be making a very special appearance and would love for you to help spread some festive cheer by joining him and his elves for a Christmas Sing-Along at each of the seven town centres across North Lanarkshire. The words to all of the festive songs will be displayed on a big screen so there’s no excuse not to join in!

He’s also bringing along his magic post box to let the children post their Christmas list. Make sure to include an address as Santa has promised to reply to each and every one!
