I have been asked by the authority to become Acting Head Teacher at Kilsyth Primary School to cover the Head Teacher’s absence until Christmas. I will miss being at Tannochside next term but will be back in the New Year. I know all the boys and girls will be working hard with their teachers and I will look forward to hearing all their news and achievements when I return.

Road Safety Roadshow
The entire school had a fabulous time learning about Road Safety with members of staff from Norbet Dentressangle haulage company. Two massive HGV lorries were parked in our car park all day and every class got to look round them. The teachers had the difficult job of clambeing up in to the cabs to find out just how difficult it is to see pedestrians and other road users if they come too close to the lorries.
The company also donated gifts for each child and prizes for a competition. Thank you very much to the three staff members from Norbert Dentressangle for a wonderful experience.

Healthy Eating at Tannochside
As a Gold Health Promoting School, we encourage the children to make healthy choices when it comes to food. This year, Mrs Burke has organised a Fruit Point system. For every piece of fresh fruit eaten by a pupil during the school day, they earn one point. The person with the most points in each Bay at the end of the month wins some exotic fruit to enjoy.
We are very lucky to be supported by Morrisons supermarket in Bellshill with this initiative, who gift the fruit prizes every month.
Wedding Day
Bay 17 and Bay 19 have been learning about weddings in Christianity. We decided that it would be great fun if we had a mock wedding of our own. So on Monday we visited Burnhead Parish Church and our bride and groom were ‘married’ by Mr Brunger. Then on Wednesday we visited Viewpark Parish Church and our bride and groom were ‘married’ by Mr Lyle. Afterwards we went back to school to have our reception. We performed the first dance, the bride threw her bouquet and we cut the cake and everyone had a great time.
Road Safety Roadshow
We are all looking forward to our Road Safety Roadshow in partnership with Norbett Dentressangle. This event will take place on Monday 10th October at the top end of the school car park. All Primary classes will have the opportunity to visit the two vehicles and talk to the drivers about road/cycle safety.
Parents are very welcome to visit after 2.30pm on Monday as Norbett Dentressangle staff will be only too happy to show them around the lorries and discuss any aspect of Road Safety regarding HGVs and trailers on the roads. So why not come along and see what you can learn?
McMillan Coffee
Thanks to all the children who dressed down for McMillan. We were delighted at the huge turn out of parents and friends for our coffee afternoon. Everyone enjoyed the home baking and the school has to thank the school’s catering staff for providing all the delicious treats. It was a very busy afternoon with many pupils showing family and friends around the school.
We raised £717.92 which was a tremendous effort. Thanks to everyone for this very worthwhile cause.
The book fair’s coming….
…soon!
Macmillan Coffee Morning
A huge thank you to all of the parents, grandparents and friends of the school who attended our Coffee Morning/Open Afternoon today. We will let you know the total raised once it is finalised.
We were delighted with the turnout and the children just loved showing their families around the school. It was a great opportunity for the school community to socialise – we hope you enjoyed meeting the teachers in an informal situation.
If you attended the event, we would love your feedback. Please click here to leave a comment on the blog or email your thoughts to enquiries@tannochside.n-lanark.sch.uk
P6 have a Taste of France
P6 have been working on an interdisciplinary topic about France. The children have looked at various aspects of the country and recently enjoyed an afternoon of tasting food produced in France. They had the opportunity to try numerous different foods, including; croissants, pain au chocolate, baguettes, pate, crepes, Camembert cheese, grapes and grape juice. Please have a look at our photographs.
