News from Mrs Denney

Lots of exciting things to report- Mr Lyall and Mr Brunger, our school chaplains, have been into school to visit and have started a Scripture Union Club on a Monday lunchtime for P5-7 pupils. If you want come along, see me for a permission slip. This is a fun club with lots of different activities for pupils to enjoy.
Mr Brunger joined with us for last week’s assemblies and we had terrific fun playing his version of Red or Black.
We are again singing with Mrs Lyall alternate weeks with Infants and Junior / Seniors and we have already learned some new fun songs! Mrs Lyall and Mrs McGregor our Kodaly teacher are again running the school choir on a Thursday for pupils in P4-7 if you want join come along please do so.
Norbert Dentressangle the haulage company are supporting the school with a Road Safety Roadshow on Monday 10th October and it promises to be a very exciting event as they are bringing two lorries into the car park to make pupils aware of cycling safety and road safety around large haulage vehicles. More information to follow nearer the time.
Mr Clark’s class have been trained last week in Peer Mediation as you can see from the photographs and Mrs Fullerton’s class will be trained next week. NLC Inclusion Base are conducting this valuable training and all pupils in P7 will have this opportunity.
It’s so nice to see all our pupils in school uniform with indoor shoes and their PE kit. Remember to bring this every week as PE is important to keep fit and healthy.  Remember – no football colours in school on any belongings i.e. pencil cases, packed lunch boxes, jewellery etc.
Thanks to all parents/carers for being considerate in the car park by parking in designated bays and not parking or mounting pavements as our pupils need to be safe in the campus and it is everyone’s responsibility to be a considerate driver.

Breakfast Club

Pupils can come along to The ‘Breakfast Club’ from 8.15-8.45am every morning.

Please note there are no crossing patrols available till 8.30, so its ideal if you want to drop children off on the way to work.

On the menu is juice, cereal with milk and toast—only 20p, which can be paid via the Cashless cafeteria service.

Fun activities are organised by Mrs McGhee.  Children should arrive no earlier than 8.15am and in time for the last serving at 8.45am.

Going for Gold

Parents, carers and families are by far the most important influences on children’s lives. Parents who take on a supportive role in their children’s learning make a difference in improving achievement and behaviour.” Parental Involvement Act 2006

As part of our on-going commitment to promoting positive behaviour we are continuing with our Going for Gold initiative within the school. The main focus will be to encourage the children to “keep the golden rules” which are:

  • Do be gentle                              Do be kind and helpful                         Do be honest
  • Do look after property          Do work hard                                           Do listen to others

Children will be encouraged to work towards a specified target of keeping all of their Golden Time each week. At the end of June those children who have met that target will receive a fantastic reward. This year we had bouncy castles, a theatre company, birds of prey display, arts and crafts activities, hair spray, beauty treatments and face painting. The Golden Day was a great success and enjoyed by all children.  This year, each term we hope to reward children who do not lose any Golden Time at all.  This may be a DVD or sports activity or other fun activity.

You will be notified when your child achieves bronze and silver awards throughout the year. Your and your child will be made aware on a weekly basis if they have lost any Golden Time.

Inappropriate Behaviour

If your child loses 15 minutes of their Golden Time within a week, you will be notified by letter. If the inappropriate behaviour continues then your child will be referred to one of the Principal Teachers who will discuss your child’s behaviour with him/her. The Principal Teachers will work with the following stages:

P1-3 Mrs Fleck         P4/5 Mrs Ferrie           P6/7 Mrs Grant

If a child continues to show little improvement in their behaviour after working with a PT then parents will be invited into a meeting with Mr Clark or Mrs Queen to discuss further options in addressing the behaviour. Mrs Bryson will work with children who are struggling to modify their behaviour over a longer period of time.

We also operate a respect policy within the school. All members of our school community are encouraged to show respect for each other. Children in breach of this will be issued with a zero tolerance letter from the Head Teacher.

Throughout the process the main emphasis will always be on encouraging children to make the right choices and giving the child opportunities to achieve success.

If you have any queries or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school where a member of the management team will be happy to chat to you.

Tannochside Primary – A school of Respect

At Tannochside Primary, we encourage the children to be respectful to one another and the adults that work with them.  All children are reminded of the importance of showing respect at all times and are rewarded when they do so.  They also understand that their are consequences to being direspectful.  This helps Tannochside remain a friendly, positive environment for all!

These photographs explain our policy of RESPECT:
