Here in St. Patrick’s we have a very active Parent Council who work in partnership with the school to improve the learning experiences for all of our children.
The Parent Council’s rights and duties include:
- supporting the work of the school
- representing the views of parents
- consulting with parents and reporting back to the Parent Forum on matters of interest
- promoting contact between the school, parents, pupils, providers of nursery education and the wider community
- fundraising
- taking part in the selection of senior promoted staff
- receiving reports from the Head Teacher and education authority
- receiving an annual budget for administration, training and other expenses
- improving home school partnership and facilitating parental involvement
Parent council meetings usually take place on the first Wednesday of every month and are open to members of the public. (Dates of meetings are included in the school’s monthly newsletters) All parents/guardians of children who are pupils at this school are entitled to vote in elections.
Objectives of the council are generally set at the AGM which gives the group concentrated objectives for the coming session. 2015/16 objectives are:
- Up-date of the School Handbook
- Assist on the Homework policy/position statement
- Collaborative working on a ‘Better relationships Better Learning Policy’
- Creation of a school vision statement
