Term 3 Update from Primary 5

Primary 5 have settled in well this Term after the excitement of Christmas. The children are really enthusiastic about their Interdisciplinary/Science topic Clyde in the Classroom. This topic encourages children to engage with nature and develop a sense of pride in their local environment. Primary 5 are responsible for the care of brown trout within their classroom and work weekly with a Clyde River Foundation Scientist. The brown trout eggs were delivered on Wednesday the 24th of January. We are expected to care for the eggs for six weeks where we will then release them into the River Clyde. The children are responsible for checking on the tank several times a day. They need to check the temperature and ensure that it is suitable for the eggs; too hot and they add iced water bottles or too cold and they would remove any iced water bottles. The children need to check on the eggs and remove any eggs which have died to ensure that they don’t spread any viruses to the remaining eggs. Primary 5 are keeping a weekly diary recording the changes of the eggs development. The children are thoroughly enjoying caring for the eggs and all of the learning which is taking place within their topic. Look out for our pictures on Twitter.

Term 3 Update from Primary 6 and Miss Lawlor

Euro Quiz Team!

Primary 6 have been busy studying Europe recently and the members of the Euro Quiz worked super hard in the lead up to the quiz this week! Although we didn’t win, we are extremely proud to have worked towards our goal of competing in the heats and we are so pleased at how well we performed! Primary 6 enjoyed researching a country of their own choice as part of a homework project last week – the children loved listening to their peers share facts and as a class, we learned so much!

YMI Project

Term 3 has also been a very exciting time for P6 as we have now recorded our own unique Skeleton song and created our blurb for the CD. It was an outstanding opportunity for the children to experience recording their own music with professional equipment and I’m sure it is a day they will remember for a long time! The pupils alongside the choir are so excited about performing their song at Motherwell Civic on the 7th of March – we can’t wait to show off our song!

Catholic Education Week

As part of Catholic Education Week, Primary 6 have worked hard to create artistic images of Jesus the Teacher. We have been reflecting on the ways in which we can serve the common good (this year’s theme). As a class, we decided to create a prayer jar to dedicate prayers to people around the world who need them.

An Update from Primary 7

We have been very busy here in Primary 7 since returning after the Christmas holidays. We have been continuing on with our IDL theme ‘Britain’s Cultural Diversity’, looking at various religions and cultures within our society. This week we have been focusing on Buddhism, particularly the festival of Wesak. Next we will be creating a dot painting using cotton buds of the actual Buddha himself. The children have also been enjoying the snow days that we’ve had since our return. We had lots of fun with our snowman competition, and although our class didn’t win, we thought our snowmen bride and groom was fabulous! Have a look at our pictures below!
