Primary 3/2 – What We Have Been Learning

It has been a lovely start to our time together in Primary 3/2. The children have settled well into their new class and have enjoyed getting to know their new classmates. We have been busy building friendships, learning our classroom routines and getting ready for an exciting year of learning.

We have been working hard on developing our fine motor skills. These activities are helping to strengthen our hands and fingers and will support us with our handwriting and number formation.

We have been practising carefully and thinking about how we hold and control our pencils.

We have also been learning about how we can look after our planet. The children enjoyed working together to create our very own Eco Code, sharing lots of fantastic ideas about how we can care for our school and the environment.

As part of the Eco learning we carried out a soil and seed experiment to investigate what conditions grass needs to grow. We planted grass seeds in different tubs and changed the conditions to see what would happen.

The children were delighted when they discovered that grass had grown in two of our tubs. Through our observations, the children were able to identify that water and light are optimum conditions for growing healthy grass. One of our tubs had grown brownish grass because it had been kept out of the light. This led to a fantastic discussion, and the children wondered if we could turn the grass green again by placing it in sunlight and continuing to water it. We were thrilled to discover that it worked! The children were delighted to see the grass becoming green again. It was a wonderful opportunity to make predictions, observe changes and talk like scientists.
