Update from Primary 2 & Mrs. McLauchlan

Primary 2 have enjoyed a busy first term and the time is flying by!

The children have all settled in well to primary two and have produced some interesting pieces of work. They are all particularly interested in our ‘under the sea’ topic and have learned a lot about sea creatures and their ocean habitats. Our aquarium role play area has proved to be a big success – the children love taking turns at being ‘staff’ and ‘customers’ as you will see from our photographs.

The class have been hard at work across all curricular areas – in numeracy this term some of the areas we have covered are place value, rounding numbers and addition and subtraction within 20. In literacy the children have been doing lots of reading work – they have been learning that reading helps your brain work better and therefore helps you become better at lots of other things, such as writing and problem solving.

P2 have fun in the aquarium role play area.

Enjoying the aquarium role play area.

Having fun in PE.

Name writing at the start of term.

Sponge painting our starfish.

We met Roory the kookaburra.

We love singing along to zero the hero!

We enjoyed handling the guinea pigs.

Term 1 Update from Mrs O’Donnell and Primary 3

Primary 3 have settled well into their new classroom and new routines. We have been working hard and we have been enjoying the learning experiences so far this term.

Our Interdisciplinary Learning topic this term is Katie Morag Delivers the Mail. The children have really enjoyed the Art and Design work which we have completed so far. The class worked in collaborative groups to create a landscape picture of the Isle of Struay.

The children have had many opportunities this month to be active in our school. The focus in P.E this term has been athletics and the children have enjoyed learning how our body responds to different levels of exercise. The school was also very fortunate to have a Scottish Judo Champion visit us this month and primary 3 showed 100% commitment when taking part in the circuit challenge laid out for them.

We are looking forward to the rest of the term. Thank you for your continued support.

Term 1 in Primary 3/2 with Mrs McCann and Mrs Colton

Primary 3/2 have had a very busy first term. We have been enjoying the new challenges and learning experiences at this new stage.

Our interdisciplinary topic this term is ‘Katie Morag Delivers the Mail’. Using the story as a stimulus we have been learning about the key residential, agricultural and recreational differences between a town and remote island. During play-based learning experiences, the children have had lots of fun re-enacting life on a remote island in our class Post Office. We have used a variety of malleable materials to create a 3D model of the island of Struay. In the construction area, we have been using our problem-solving skills to create a variety of houses and buildings. We have also used the stories of Katie Morag as a stimulus for our writing lessons. The pupils were able to retell the story of ‘Katie Morag Delivers the Mail’ in their own words. Have a look at our work below. As well as this, the pupils learned how to write a letter, by writing a letter to Katie Morag asking her about her life on the island with her family. All the pupils are eagerly waiting for a reply from Katie Morag. I wonder if we will get one next week….
